I have one of these, and I replaced it with a different model. This model is aggravating in that commonly used buttons are placed above the screen, and your hand will brush the screen constantly when using those buttons, which causes it to change channels, inputs, whatever is on the screen at the time.

I replaced it with a Harmony 950 and it is MUCH better than this remote.

Ok Woot staff. Your eagle eyes are better than mine. What am I missing. Best Buy seems to have this cheaper, at $99 bucks. Same model, same accessories included, but I am sure I am missing something.

Your not missing anything.
Best Buy is $99.99 and new. Woot is reconditioned.

I am starting to double check other sites because of the above bestbuy price. Once woot was a deal. They still have deals. But now we need to check other sources just to make sure the deal is a deal and not a woot (steal our money) deal.

Absolutely amazing that people are actually paying more for a refurb unit with a crummy warranty. Wow…just wow!!

I completely agree with the first post by mechanicsc.
I have this unit and the button layout is terrible. Also, taking away physical buttons and replacing with a touchscreen is terrible.
I use the much more sensible Harmony 700.

Yeah I’m not one to complain about deals, but come on guys… $15 more than a brand new one at a major retailer?

Aside from a better deal elsewhere, I had one of these and used it for my directv with a genie model hr54. It worked great but when I upgraded to the genie 2 they replaced my hr54 with a wireless client. Now it doesn’t work correctly. I’m not sure if the client has a shitty ir sensor or something since they’re primarily rf but it just doesn’t control it correctly. Just a little FYI.

I think Amazon bought woot to run it out of business. I can’t think of another explanation for the prices they’re charging for “deals” now.

From when I last was installing directv, the newer clients sometimes had IR disabled and defaulted to RF only. But they also changed IR codes, and like you said…garbage sensor. New ones you’re better off getting the separate IR flashers and putting them directly on the sensor.

I hope I can say that at some point, I’m still installing it. But yes, I’ve tried using an ir repeater and made sure the ir was enabled on the client. I’ve just came to the conclusion that it’s not going to work right. It’s just disappointing since it worked so well with the hr54.

What you have to realize is other places change prices. A lot. And many of them because of us (we call it “comping”). And over the weekend, we miss comps. We do a lot to try and catch when others have lower prices. Honestly. We don’t have anything automated to do this though, so a lot of the time we depend on the helpful forum folks to nudge us and say “hey dopes, you missed a spot”. So we do appreciate it!

I don’t have an answer on this deal today, but when my buds get to work in the morning I’ll make sure they know we missed on this one so we don’t miss again. We want the best prices in town and will either try and meet that promise, or if we can’t then we usually pull the deal (like the Xbox last week). It is getting harder and competition fiercer, but I promise the team is busting their butts to find sweet treasure at a price y’all love. Super appreciate those folks who do post here when the price isn’t the best. Keep it up! And we’ll get better.
