Yes, I erased my entry, redrew the dragon, and re-submitted. I know starting over cost me some votes, but the last one looked too much like the original pictures I had based it on for me to feel like it was actually my art.
I think you are among a strong minority of folks that have intentionally pulled a fogged design out of the running. Might actually be the first.

I don’t even want to breath on a design when I have one in the fog!

It’s seems silly, but it’s probably worth it.
Maybe the voters will say the idea is good enough to vote for it again (or for the editors to give it a go in the Editor’s Choice sale).
The gravity of the fog is hard to overcome.
