5ive Star Dlx Field Ready Rations (MRE)

For those that have ever eaten these… Here is a relevant short story. https://bear.org/bears-mysterious-fecal-plug/#:~:text=During%205-7%20months%20in,leaving%20it%20dry%20and%20hard.

Just as a note - they are listed as having a 5-year shelf life, but they were manufactured in Aug 2020. So that means you’re already halfway through the shelf life.

IMHO - these should be a lot cheaper given they are already halfway through their utility.

That’s a disgusting correlation to make, but not an inaccurate one Lol

It’s my perhaps incorrect understanding that if they are surplus items that they become surplus at the inspection date and the military/similar replaces them so the military/similar maintains a fresh stock. The surplus ones then go to sale to retailers/public.

These aren’t officially military surplus. Just “MRE style pouches.” Though it does say the shelf life is “five years or more”…so maybe it will be ok on the ‘or more’ side?

What are the possible menus? Normally with MREs they will state what entrees, snacks, drink options are. There is zero mention of any of that.

This is what we got from the vendor:

The item contains 12 meals with a minimum of 4 main dish flavors. Each meal contains a water-activated field heater and do not require additional water.

Each meal pack contains Main Dish Entree, Side Dish, Snack, Dessert, Beverage Powder, Condiments and water activated heater.

There are dozens of different types of meals, so there is no way to know which each one would get. There could be anything from stews, beef or chicken, pizza, tamales, etc.
