What is the date on these and the AAA?

These are being fulfilled by Amazon, so presumably it would vary from warehouse to warehouse, and even in one warehouse, it might vary.

In other words, this is a total crap shoot.

Might be a great deal, might get batteries that are useless.

Based upon the number of food items that come from Amazon past their date, I would have little confidence in these batteries.

They are stated to have a 12-year shelf life, I question how Amazon would have “expired” “useless” batteries that long. Total crap shoot, in a pig’s eye.

Never said the batteries would be expired. In fact, never used the word expired so not sure why you put that in quotations…

Alkaline batteries can lose up to 3% of their charge every year even when stored in optimal conditions. If we give amazon the benefit of the doubt and assume these batteries are only halfway through their shelf life (and they haven’t been stored in sub optimal conditions), that means they could have lost up to 18% of their capacity. And who knows, maybe they are on their 10th year? And only have 70% of their capacity left.

In addition, it isn’t really accurate to say that a battery has 70% life left when it’s at 70% capacity. As capacity is diminished, the voltage also drops. Many devices cease to function when a batteries voltage drops below 1.2 volts.

In other words, you might have very little useable capacity left in these batteries.

OR maybe Amazon just purchased way too many of these, are trying to move them and everyone will receive practically brand new items!

My point is, we can’t know until someone pulls the trigger and posts here. So yeah, crapshoot.

@ruouttaurmind @ramsespride

We got these units directly from Energizer 3 weeks ago. We asked them about expiration dates, and they said: “Our products aren’t expiration dated. But they do have a 12 year shelf life. If you need to, you can use 10-12 years from now as the expiration date.” Extrapolating from their “10-12 years” comment, I think we can safely assume that all of these batteries were produced within the last 2 years, if not even more recently, and have at least 10 years of life left.

Thanks for digging! This is the kind of info that helps woot shoppers purchase with confidence.

I pulled the trigger on a pack of AAAs, will let y’all know how the :game_die: roll.

I concede, no one said “expired,” but if “the (manufactured) date” on these is a year or two ago I still think the 38¢ each price is okay.

It’s odd that these batteries have expiration dates since according to mithrandirs convo with the supplier, the batteries don’t have expiration dates but are good for 12 years from production. Additionally, some expiration dates as noted above are 2040 which means they have a shelf life of 15 years…. The math ain’t mathing.

Probably because it’s not truly an expiration date. It’s a “Best If Used By’” date. Doesn’t mean it will be dead or unusable at that date.

From Google AI:
The BIUB date guarantees that the battery will hold at least 80% of its original capacity until that date, but does not mean the battery will be dead afterward.

Got mine delivered today. The packaging is open and the batteries are loose all inside. Not sure if this was an opened pack that was shipped.

They been shipping these in bubble pack bags that don’t protect from impact leading to lots of bouncing and dislodging of the batteries
