I have a friend who claims 1st gen AirTags are āhackableā so he wonāt touch the set given to him as a gift. Not sure if they are or not, but there is a general fear.
Not sure what they mean by āHackableā, but the only hack into the firmware I know of requires physical access to the AirTag. Thatās a lot of work to insert a bad URL to attack the average person. I have zero real world concerns about AirTag hacking.
We have then attached to all keys, in laptop bags and packs, luggage, in bottle mount holders on our bikes, in my power tool cases, and with āElevation Labā cases powered by 2 x AA lithium batteries (10-year battery life) buried in our vehicles.
$57 for 4, or $14.25 each is a new record low for first gen AirTags from a mainstream source, to my knowledge.
2nd gen vs 1st gen:
- Identical size and should work in the same cases
- Longer range Bluetooth
- 2nd gen UWB chip for more precise finding (requires newer phones)
- Works with Watch 9 or later
- Louder speaker
- More difficult to disable speaker (good for anti-stalking, but not good for hiding in a car to protect the car)
- Requires iOS 26.2.1 or later [EDIT: for full additional/improved features].
We will continue to use a combination of 1st and 2nd gen AirTags. At $14.25 each, this is a nice deal.
I donāt believe you have to be on iOS 26 to use the 2gen AirTag, just for support of newest features.

This is a great deal. I donāt think the Gen 2 AirTags have enough improvement to justify paying the higher price. Before they got discontinued the 4-pack of the Gen 1 AirTags was $59 at its lowest at the mothership.
Also question for Woot.. What does it mean āLimit 1 per customerā? Does that mean just 1 per transaction? Or 1 purchase until this batch is sold out?

Amazon briefly had them priced at $13.91 each last month (March 12). I ordered a couple, but they have yet to ship. The delivery date has been delayed several times and they recently sent a notification asking if I wanted to cancel, which I declined. Iām getting the impression they would be happy if I did cancel.

Check the vendor, btw. Sometimes it looks like Amazon selling and shipping, but itās drop shipping for another seller. I usually try to use a seller thatās proven trustworthiness with prior purchases.
Well, the order was (finally) delivered a little while ago. Unfortunately there was only one AirTag in the box instead of the two I ordered. Just got done setting up a refund for the missing one via the app. Oh well. Better than nothing.
Good question. Canāt ship to NJ either. Iāve had these shipped directly from Amazon in the past.
Hey - could a staffer or volunteer maybe explain why my cart is telling me these (and the 4-pack Apple silicone loop, for that matter) canāt be shipped to Montana? When the listing says nothing of the sort? And Iāve never experienced this before? And the sales map shows many have previously been sold/shipped to Montana? Very frustrating.
