At first I could not see why any bagged caramel would cost over a dollar an ounce (the foo-foo / gourmet stuff is equally over priced, but they box their products) then I realized this brand is all sugar free, using that stuff that is supposed to cook / bake just the same as sugar (actually in tests is about 2/3rds as sweet so it isn’t a perfect substitute) and I know that while a 4# bag of sugar may be as much as $4 depending on the brand (dollar a pound or less), the “sugar substitute” goes for about $8-$10 a pound in most stores, and even on Amazon a 3# bag is $26. So when you use pricey ingredients, you get a pricey product.
