Amplified Outdoor HDTV Antenna: 180mi Range

Amplified Outdoor HDTV Antenna: 180mi Range

The most reputable manufacturers, Winegard and Channel Master’s top of the line antennas (costing about $150) cautiously state that under best case scenarios you MAY get a range of 65 miles… TOPS. That is if the antenna is mounted at a minimum height of 30 feet AND that it is mounted outdoors. More likely it will be reliable within 50 miles. It is f-ing ridiculous to claim a 180 mile range. Any TV Tech will tell you that signal propagation will simply not allow the range being claimed. As a matter of fact, if their claim were half of the stated 180 miles… still not possible. I’m sure this antenna will work reliably at 30 feet mounted on the apex of your home within 50 MILES of the transmitting location. If you’re buying it with an expectation beyond that, you’re wasting time and money. Seriously, how reputable can this manufacturer be if they are happy to outright lie to you. Best to stay away.
Another thing to consider. The specs say that the antenna element is 21" x 9" (actually less). Look at the photos. Check the one on the RV or others towering over the houses. You would think the antenna is monsterous. IT AIN’T.

I think they mean it can be photoshopped onto any object within 180 miles…
