Apple iPad Air 3 (2019) 10.5" Tablets

Apple iPad Air 3 (2019) 10.5" Tablets

This is the latest top, non-Pro iPad model. Going to guess these might be Costco buyer’s remorse returns since it is a very new Fall 2019 model - they can’t be very “used.” Costco might be the only seller to promote this model with discounts.

This is a very nice tablet - it is virtually the same as the original iPad Pro 10.5 (2017) but with updated CPU.

Air 3 10.5 (Fall 2019) vs. iPad Pro 10.5 (Summer 2017):

  • A12 cpu vs A10X (most folks won’t notice the performance difference, but importantly, it likely gets you another two years of operating system upgrades.)

  • The exact same case, identical dimensions.

  • Gives up some camera quality (but who really uses a tablet camera for anything other than “scanning” documents?) - 8 megapixel vs 12 megapixel and 1080p vs 4K video.

  • [Edit] Same 7 megapixel camera on both for FaceTime or Skype.

  • Both are 1st gen Apple Pencil compatible.

Costco sold it for $400 BF but currently has it at $470 and mother Amazon and Walmart have it at $460, so at $380 this is a decent deal. Haven’t really followed the other retailer prices since this odd model, equipped like a Pro and priced at quite a premium over the current mainstream iPad, iPad 10.2 (Spring 2019) does not seem to be as common a promotional sale model. Note, the “street price” of the iPad 10.2, like its mainstream predessor iPad 9.7 (2018) appears to have settled in at around $250-$280.

Demerits for:

  • Woot 90 day warranty vs. 1-year if new or Apple refurbed.

  • Unkown aftermarket accessories vs Apple OEM as new or Apple refurbed.

  • As usual, Woot! does not declare the condition of Refurbs unless they are “scratch and dent”, but since this model a new Fall 2019 release, these are likely BF Costco buyers remorse returns, presumably in like new condition.

The fear of getting dinged w/o being able to return it has me spooked, especially at this price

Actually, Woot! Customer Service has improved very dramatically over the past couple years. In many ways they are far more responsive than the script bunnies offshore in India used by mother Amazon.

If you carefully evaluate the iPad you receive and have an Apple store run full diagnostics, you should be good.
