Not a great concept to combine those two functions. Smoke rises and carbon monoxide sinks. Placing a CO detector on the ceiling is not going to be helpful.

That information is incorrect. CO2, i.e. Carbon Dioxide is heavier than air, but Carbon Monoxide is about even in density and studies show that it evenly disperses throughout a room so the ceiling is just fine for a detector.
