8Bitdo Ultimate 3-Mode Controller

8Bitdo Ultimate 3-Mode Controller

I wanted to give this a few days of use before reviewing, and I have to say I’m quite pleased! I use it for Amazon’s Luna streaming game service exclusively. This replaced the branded Luna controller as an upgrade. The Luna seems to want to badly drift after just a little use and I just got so frustrated trying to do what I was doing (Fallout 4!). In contrast, I haven’t experienced any drift after putting this through its paces.

Purchased originally for use on the Fire TV Cube via Bluetooth, It was fairly easy to connect (read the instructions). You lose the ability to use the large center button to navigate directly to Luna - it’s used as a home key for Amazon controllers, but that isn’t a deal breaker given the stability of the controls. I’ve since used it on my laptop with using the 2.4Ghz dongle. It works great on both platforms.

I’m a little concerned with longevity as many reviews on the mothership mention it doesn’t last very long. However, I bought it here for half price so I’m not out much if it does go south. I’ll try to jump back up where if/when it does die if it meets a premature death.

My only concern (as with everything else tech related) is the controller is made across the pond by a country intent on digging into everyone’s business. I’m hoping this doesn’t do anything subversive on my network but I have no way to know. YMMV but just know this is made in China. Because of this, I’m not installing any software, only using its native functionality. Maybe I’m paranoid but I work in technology and I’m 50+ and I’m paranoid. Take that for what you will.

I would highly recommend as an upgrade for the Luna system. I cannot speak for use on anything other than a laptop/desktop computer and the Fire TV Cube.
