Yes, ad supported. It’s just the lock screen.

Manga/Comic/Graphic novels… yes because it’s color and you’re constantly moving the page. I used a Fire 7 for reading GN in bed before it bricked itself.
For ebooks, black and white text - I prefer an e-ink reader. Less eye strain, but I’m old. It works fine for reading, turn down the backlight.
