I have had a dozen of these in various iterations. They ALL use the same lousy wire that breaks after about 10 uses. Beware…
Now when my woman is cooking my food she can grab me a beer without overcooking my meal!
be careful to not let it get too wet… I used mine for homebrew back in January and now it tells me that the ambient temp in my kitchen is 129…
I bought one of these. Thought I’d use it mainly for checking my coffee water temp. I used it once on the grill and got an error message. Oops the probe was dead. I contacted the company and they immediately with no questions sent me an entire new unit. I used it cooking a roast in the oven. It died again. Screw this. So I’m using the unit as a timer without the probe.
Good luck.
Had a different brand that just died… good timing to replace…
We bought one of these a while back from Woot. This thing is GREAT!! Perfect for someone who is terrified of undercooking the Christmas turkey!
Yes, the wire is sturdy enough to handle the door closing. Most oven doors have an insulator strip that is a bit flexible anyway so it’s not like a guillotine knife edge on the oven door.
I have a different brand, but same idea. We grill all winter and with a remote thermometer I can come in out of the cold but still keep tabs on the meat.
That’s when you contact the manufacturer and send it back to get a new one. I bought a remote a while back that didn’t work off of Woot, manufacturer quickly replaced it.
Got 3x last woot off. Two work like garbage (is my meat really 400 degrees?, oh wait, no it’s only 19).
One works good. Not worth the risk, will buy a better one next time. One with the temp on the remote too.
Bought one of these awhile back. Love it!
The only issue is there is no clip for the pager to tie to the thermometer when not in use. I had visions of losing the pager, so it was an easy fix with a big rubber band so the pager doesn’t get lost in never-never land behind the stove.
For the most part, the write-ups for Woot! give me a headache–seriously, it hurts my brain to read them. However, this one absolves them all…the Capistrano-remark was unexpectedly hilarious.
This is going to go great with our grilling themed groomsmens gifts. In for 3!
I have one and use it at work all the time.
Open the window.
It is important to know the temperature of your meat.
I bought this in the summer, from Woot, and the only problem was that I should have gotten 3! This baby is truly amazing. You will never have to open your hot oven to check the temp of your cooking project. This saves time, lets the oven stay at the same temp and is safer. Additionally, the alarms go off when its reach the right temp, preventing you from over cooking that expensive piece of meat. My whole family is going to own one now!
Yep, keep an eye on the connection to the probe though, over time the stainless steel will start to pull away and leave the wires exposed.
x2 on everything in this post.
Woot! Just in time for grilling season.
In for one then!
