Not even HD, lame. They were selling 16 GB 8" HD units for the same money earlier today.

DO NOT BUY. I promised the folks over at Amazon that they would rue the day for screwing me over with refurbs of this exact tablet. I bought brand new tablets for my daughters for Christmas a few years ago with 3 year warranties. One tablet went haywire after a year and I wasn’t aware they would send me refurbs to replace faulty tablets for their warranty. The first refurb last 3 months, so we sent it back on warranty. The second refurb lasted a few months and it too went haywire. Sent it back for another refurb piece of junk. SOoooooo…if they are willing to send a so-called valuable customer a piece of junk as a replacement for a 1 year old lightly used tablet, than they are willing to screw you too as a first time buyer.

Thanks…

I have a refurbed one bought from Amazon that has been going strong for a long time. In fact I have left it plugged in with the screen on all the time(displaying weather info) for 22 months straight.

I bought an HD Fire from here back in April and that one still works fine as well. Sometimes it’s a roll of the dice with refurbs, but with such a deep discount, I think it is worth the risk.

FWIW, that’s not all that unusual. When Apple replaced my phone, it was with a certified refuribished phone.

What in the world are you doing to your tablets? My four year old has used his Kids Edition of this exact model for two years. He’s dropped it, tossed it, spilled and smeared who knows what on it. And it’s still in great shape.

Out of the five various Fire tablets that have been in and out of our house, only one has ever died. And that’s the one that I spilled saline contact solution onto early one morning - and didn’t remember or try to do anything until late that night. They aren’t great performers or top of the line devices by any means, but they seem to be pretty darn durable.

Mine came today 12/16 - appears New In Box, and instead of black, it’s orange. Yay! easier to find in a dark room!
