Edit: That’s for the “latest”, presumably 2017, version.
But aside from the new version weighing a bit more, I don’t see any spec differences on Wikipedia. PC Mag says Wifi and audio are better on the new one, and some reviews say it’s faster, but the processor is the same. That’s not worth triple the price to me.
Amazon doesn’t replace batteries, it’s not worth the effort and expense.
This is an awesome price. I’m getting one to replace my older 7" Fire, which has a battery failing to hold a full charge. Once this arrives and is registered, I’ll recycle my old Fire using Amazon’s recycle service.
This will be my carry around Fire for reading and studying, so 16 GB will work just fine and $29 is a great price.
I have two other Fires with more memory for other purposes, downloading Prime movies and TV. My 2012 8.9" 64 GB Fire is still running strong.
I had the same problem back in January, however it was quickly remedied by contacting Amazon. I expected it to be a hassle but it only took about 10 minutes.
Not sure if you will have the same trouble again but as simple as the process was and given the savings, I’d say it’s worth it.
I spent about 45 minutes with Amazon support and their conclusion was that it was impossible. So YMMV if you buy this and run into the activation issue.
Great review on You Tube of the Fire HD 8 compared to an apple iPad Pro. One item that isn’t clear, does this tablet have Alexa? Watch the video and see how this reviewer abuses the HD 8, its amazing!
