Dear Woot,
I love you dearly, so would you please stop offering small kitchen appliances that look darling and make think I am going to learn to cook?!?! We both know, that I am not going to and that the cute, unknowing appliance is going to wind up in a closet and ultimately donated, where it will spend eternity watching people walk by in hopes that special someone will pick them up, hug them with joy at check out, and actually plug them in.
My mixer? Out of the box and in the kitchen but completely unused.
Heck, I even have an Instant Pot I bought on here two or three years ago and it’s only been used two or three times because it’s weird and I don’t get it. I know how useful they can be, so no need to tell me. It’s just… I dunno, really.
Instant pot used 1x to make Mac and cheese cause I thought why not - the box and powered cheese turns out to be more my speed
Now, I have used my Ninja grill, air frying oven and air fryer a lot - love those things - not necessarily that they are Ninja products, but easy to use, fast, don’t heat your kitchen up to 3000 degrees ) - I have sent these to a few working mom friends who love to cook, but just didn’t have the time anymore, especially when all the kids were home during covid - she loves them too. The kids can make dinner and all she had to do is say put x, y, z into a,b, or c and they have something healthier to eat
Now, the bigger question is, why am I completely gutting and redoing my kitchen just so I have an oven, when I don’t cook???
I still haven’t put together my dollar charcoal grill and I gave away the dollar rice cooker.
You’re redoing your kitchen for the same reason I would if I could – you have a dream and dreams should not be denied. Go forth, build that fabulous kitchen, and enjoy it as you walk through it to nuke something or stick those restaurant leftovers in the fridge.
I’ll usually plug them in at store to test them. I do skip the hugging part, though, especially if it’s an appliance that gets hot.
Some of my thrift store purchases have been well worth it and get regular use, like the Breville smart oven and Zojirushi rice cooker. Nearly all the coffee makers I have were purchased second hand, some at $1.
Others, like the NIB quesadilla maker that I got for $2.79 … well, it’s still in the box.
When I was getting divorced and was setting up a house, the city I lived in had a ton of great thrift stores and that is how I filled the cabinets with dishes, appliances, pots and pans - heck it is how I filled the house. A couch from here, a table from there. Where I live now we don’t have thrift stores, you have to drive a good half hour - but it is where I get most of my decorations for Christmas - those $50 stocking holders = $2.
Don’t bother with that turd. I’m a decent cook (so is my wife), we understand how to use the thing, but have yet to get anything worthwhile out of it yet.
Not sure the appeal or hoopla surrounding the thing. Went back to using my crock pot which turns out tastier, juicier, and more delightful meals than the Insta-Pot ever has.
The problem is I live in a very small apartment. During the warmer time of the year, using my slow cooker for hours heats up the place so much I can’t use it. During the cooler months it’s okay, though it still gets warm. So having something faster is better, in theory. I know people who use their Instant Pots all the time and love them so there has to be something there.
I have a set of friends who became empty nester 3 or so years ago and live and breath by theirs. The stuff he makes is incredible and in theory doesn’t seem to hard once you get the process down.
