Apple Thunderbolt Gigabit Ethernet Adapter

Apple Thunderbolt Gigabit Ethernet Adapter

Tempting at $17 - $5 promo code = $12.

Interesting Apple apparently discontinued this a while back. Perhaps due to slow sales due to aftermarket competitors?

There is a use case - you happen to be in a location with poor WiFi but do have LAN access. Or perhaps you need the security of a wired connection. These days WiFi can be so fast, that for most applications, the speed difference of a gigabit network connection wouldn’t be all that noticeable.

Be sure to thoroughly test it - don’t simply throw it in the laptop bag - when you get it since it’s only a 90 day warranty.

My WiFi’s great but there are times when a wired connection is a good idea, e.g. macOS updates, updating a new Mac from iCloud backup. Or even just plugging into a WiFi extender that’s stronger than your laptop.

There’s an Anker dongle here on Woot that tempted me, but with APPLEFIVE this came close enough. My experience is that Apple cables and adapters are top-tier. They may be overpriced at times, but you get a top quality product. Even their cables (as USB-C cables and others now have sophisticated electronics in the connectors).

Just got mine. Note that this is NOT a USB-C Thunderbolt connector, but a Mini DisplayPort connector like early Macbook Airs. No pic of the connector. No mention of Thunderbolt 1/2 in the description.

Kudos to anyone who looked up the part number— I didn’t. Whoops. CS contacted.

Guess I should’ve bought that Anker one.

EDIT: CS was nice enough to grant me a refund. Yay, Woot!

100% same - just came back to see if I’d misread, and nope, I hadn’t. It just wasn’t clarified that this is a much much more previous version of Thunderbolt.

While I don’t think Woot is out to mislead, tough to not feel it’s a tad on the shady side.

The coupon code APPLEFIVE is NOT WORKING for this item despite the claim ON THE ITEM PAGE that it does. When I add the code to checkout I get a “Whoops, this code didn’t work” error. Explicitly claiming a code works and then not accepting it is fraud. Care to respond Woot?

You mean the code that expired on the 8th? Cause it says right there in the orange box is only good until the 8th.

(Please Note: I’m not employed by Woot, but I volunteer to help in the forums.)

The code was a one three-day offer. You should be more judicious about throwing around the “fraud” accusation. Just a suggestion.

@ThunderThighs removed the “gold box” from another of the Apple accessories listings, I guess a clean sweep of the listings is needed for those of us who read partially then lunge for our credit card.
