CDs are the new floppy discs.
Selling NEW on the mothership for $76.
Uh, You can get this for $32 on the Walmart website.
Even Amazon selling it for 41!
[MOD: both are refurbished]
Only Apple could sell people a $60 dvd drive in 2023
I bought one when I got my Mac Mini M1. I don’t use it often but worth having when I need one.
Amazon @ $41 is Refurbished.
“Cable not included”, but then also “with the built in cable”… So which is it?
You know which.
FYI - this will only work for Macs that DO NOT have a CD/DVD drive. If you have an older model with a broken (or working) drive this will not function.
Why won’t it function? Missing drivers?
Wouldn’t it be better to buy a portable/external combination blu-ray/dvd/cd rom drive instead?
They are in the same price range and will work with all systems without hacks.
Of course, you don’t get the fruity logo… or the Super cool name.
I have a cabinet with all manner of DVD and CD blank discs. My Camry has a CD player built in so - lots of driving music about to happen once I get this little beauty.
Will this work on ARM macs?
This is absolutely not true, I had a 2006 Mac Mini Core Duo (upgraded to a Core 2 Duo) and I used the official Apple USB Superdrive with it when my built in ComboDrive died. You have to tweak one NVRAM setting at the Terminal if yours doesn’t work right away:
sudo nvram boot-args="mbasd=1"
Reboot after issuing that command and it will work just as if it were an internal drive. It will also work to boot from if you need to recover your Mac from optical media.
I agree. Every now and then I find a CD of pictures from a couple decades ago that were never backed up anywhere.
This entire comment section has made me laugh.
When Apple killed the CD drive in its Macs many, many moons ago, this was brought out for those that needed one but wasn’t backwards compatible at least supported by Apple.
