that problem is that most of the carriers won’t let you use any box except theirs.

I have this (new, not refurb) and it works great with Comcast Xfinity.

That said, I have heard people complain that they have had trouble getting refurb modems working with Comcast. I totally believe that because, lets get serious, Comcast “customer support” is an oxymoron. It looks like this issue has been addressed but not resolved necessarily on Comcast’s support website: http://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Basic-Internet-Connectivity-And/Problem-installing-refurbished-modem/td-p/2453381

Be advised that if the modem you receive was already used with your ISP, you will not be able to use it. The MAC address does not change. I bought this refurbished from Amazon a couple weeks ago and Comcast said they wouldn’t associate it with my account unless I was able to contact the previous owner, and have them tell Comcast to release the MAC address. Not a realistic solution.

I’ve been using my own modem with Comcast for 5+ year without problem.

My last woot purchase was an ARRIS modem/router combo and it works great with Xfinity.

I bought one of these on woot! about a year ago refurb and have had no issues using it on TWC. A lot cheaper than their modem rental fees too.

Woot still selling these on Amazon for $29.99 as Certified Refurbished (so same price with Prime) and Amazon is a lot easier to deal with returns. Bought one a week ago and have yet to un-box it but with the slightest issue, it will go back for a full refund.

Either way, woot gets the sale for now.
