ASUS ROG Flow Z13 Gaming Laptop Tablet

external gpu is like $1500. i5 16gig ram and no dedicated gpu, dog poop for 499. this is more like a chrome book with windows 11 installed. not worth for lights and colors.

This unit appears to be conparible to some of the surface tablets, though I believe the screen resolution is a bit lower on this device. So probably not a bad buy for what you’re looking to use it for.

yeah if you pay $1500 for external gpu, you can, must be asus only as well.

If you look at this from a non gaming laptop point of view, it’s actually an ok laptop.

Rare to find screens above 60hz on laptops without the mobile GPU (also know laptop gpus aren’t the same as their desktop models that share the name numbers. Ex desktop 3060 is much better than the laptop counterpart, while named the exact same.)

So with 16GB of DDR5, that’s rare on a laptop to have that much RAM. The processor is just fine for laptop activities.

Ofc it says gaming so that’s kind of misleading, eGPU isn’t just for this laptop, that’s why those are so expensive.

The only thing is most laptops are at least 15.6" this is a rather small screen at 13" but I guess that helps you be able to use it better in tablet mode.

Seems designed for cloud gaming but my guess is cloud gaming isn’t going to take off until they fix the input latency issues.

Don’t forget about the added confusion of the whole “MaxQ” crap, with regards to your example.

Oh wow I haven’t even heard of this, but I’m googling it now. But since nVidia made it, I already kind of don’t trust it. Their business decisions in the market in the past 5 years has made me kind of indifferent towards them, lol.

Edit: is this just fancy DLSS?

Most of the features of “QMax” seems to be the combination of their DLSS 3 ai + new gddr6 memory, and the new lower powered CPU chips, lol.

Confusion indeed xD

Btw 3050ti is really bad card

It’s the 2nd lowest tier of last gens.

The first 2 numbers denotes the generation
The next 2 numbers denotes the models.
Ti at the end will mean it’s just a little bit better than the base model, but not as good as the next tier

So like 3050ti probably isn’t even as good as a 2060, even with the ti model.

Gaming laptops with “xx50” should be avoided, I’d definitely try to at least get the 60 of that generation, like an rtx 3060.

50 tier models are more workstations, usually don’t require external power can be ran right off your Mobo.

60 tier model is the kind of base “gaming” model it can handle most games well.

70 tier is your bigger gamer one, for ppl who want 4k gaming @ 60fps usually.

80 tier is “enthusiast” kind of overkill, maybe you have many displays and things running. Maybe you need to for scientific calculations, as higher power gpus are designed for that as well.

90 tier series is just ridiculousness, overkill for gaming, maybe appropriate for AI and science stuff.

While I’d agree that the Xe is a considerable improvement over previous gen integrated, it having compairable specs from low tier cards from 4 generations ago is hardly something I’d refer to as a modern “gaming” laplet. For just $100 more you can get a standard laptop with a 3060 and 12th gen i7, much better buy if gaming is what you’re looking for. Micro Center had one on sale for the price of this just a week ago.

Acer Nitro laptops are decent budget gaming laptops - just be careful to read specs of the Hard drive, RAM, even screen refresh rate, as sometimes they sell a good CPU and GPU, and give you something like a 1TB HDD, with maybe a 128gb SSD to boot (sometimes not even that) or even the dreaded “Hybrid” drives, a mash up of ssd and hdd. Really tho I see mentioned aboved mainly happen with the Dell “G” series laptops.

After looking at some of the laptop offering, I guess 16 gig is standard. I suppose the only thing that this thing has going for it is the 2-in-1 tablet function, as ppl have said above there are better spec’d machines for a little more. But still don’t get a 3050ti!!

Nice, a gaming laptop without a “GPU”. Just what I wanted to play games with.

The G16 are what I was reffering to in someone else’s reply when you could get a 12th gen i7 with a 3060 for $100 more. Personally I stay away from dell, but they’re usually a canary for prices starting to fall. This black friday will hopefully have some really great deals,. my media rig is limping along on an old 750ti and needs retirement.

I got a hp victus laptop a couple black friday’s ago that I’ve been happy with. Can handle most modern games at low/med, but runs hot when pushed.

I mean I wouldn’t expect the EGPU to come with the device at this price. That would be kind of insane.

I have no problem with them using the term gaming, it is effectively a gaming tablet and really the first of its kind. Obviously serious gaming is going to involve an investment in the EGPU but that’s kind of The whole point behind this thing.

Even if you weren’t using it for gaming right now this is cheaper than a surface pro 8 going to even the model with 8 GB of RAM is going for $719 on eBay right now

Bought one as i was looking at surface pro 9, but comparable specs would’ve been much more expensive. This z13 seems seems like a better deal so going to take a leap and try Asus as i’ve primarily had top quality surface products.

  • Interested in the liquid vapor cooling. One issue with the surface tablets is they always got hot for me and that affected performance. Sure this tablet is way chunkier but that might be a better trade off to prevent heat issues and this version should be lighter since it doesn’t have the dedicated GPU.
  • I’m so conflicted on trying the XG mobile dock. I see used 2021 RTX 3080 versions on ebay for $950 + ship. Asus direct sells it for $1,099.
  • I’ve tried razer core x eGPU in the past with an intel NUC but always had issues / low performance. Hoping that xg mobile is better since it’s proprietary but who knows i might spend all that money and it’s still just as glitchy. Also heard the XG mobile fan gets super loud like a jet engine.

Not sure why everyone is hyperventilating over the gaming tag. This is low end, and they know it. They aren’t claiming 4k ray tracing in a tablet format. If I didn’t already have an ok-ish gaming laptop I would seriously consider this.

Its really quite simple,

“Gaming” laptops come with dedicated GPU

This is just a regular 2-in-1 laptop, with a bunch of gaming marketing attached to it.

The only thing about this laptop that makes it “gaming” is the screen’s refresh rate and the RGB keyboard, cause it has RGB.

So kind of misleading to label this as a gaming laptop when it doesn’t come with a mobile version of any GPU.

Considering that the video you posted has most of the modern games on an xe running at much less than 60 frames at low low, and there are a number of laptops that perform better than this at the same price point, this really isn’t a deal unless you really need a tablet for fortnite for some reason.

Why pay extra money for a 120h “gaming” anything when it’s not able to use those hz, only to have to dump another $700 for egpu. This comes close to being something interesting, then whiffs a key aspect.

I think for me as much as most, I really don’t want someone buying this to have an unclear expectation of performance, which is something that the sellers are not necessarily concerned about.

I’d say at this price point, it would be much more attractive if it came with the edock. I get that a whole egpu is a lot to ask. In equvalent terms, I’d say that calling this a modern “gaming computer” is similar to selling someone a ps1 and telling them they can play ps2 games one it. There might be some overlap, but you’ll quickly find that you’re not able to play anything new that comes out. Maybe I’m just bitter from the old sega cd and 32x days.

I am considering this from a non-gaming point of view.
I need something really portable, with 16gb ram and priced below 700 USD. Surface 8/9 16gb variants are really costly. I think the cooling solution would give this a better sustained performance. Battery life, reliability, and weight would be better* without the dGPU.

The delivery timelines cannot be expedited, do you think they could deliver in a week (by 31 Oct.) to Washington DC? Else I would have flown out and the hotel staff would have to “refuse delivery”. Does this approach make sense?

Hi there. This ships direct from our vendor. Unfortunately, I’m able to guarantee an arrival date. It will most likely ship UPS. If you sign up with UPS, you can reroute it.
