Grinder makes a good size grind I use for cold brewing.
The only negative is the grinder is messy, shards end up all
over the counter.
I use a tray to catch the mess and just tip into the trash.
Why are these so pricey? I bought a Conical Burr Grinder from Woot a few years ago that’s been working great, but it was less than half the price.

I bought this grinder a year ago, new. This is Reddit’s hive mind opinion on the best entry level grinder for a consistent grind.
I’ve found it to be very consistent across cups with my moccamaster. Very fine control over your grind so you can dial in for each roast. It is a bit messy, as stated above, love the tray idea, and I’ve seen accessories for this grinder on the mothership that help to prevent mess or help cleanup. It is also very user repairable and spare parts can be ordered online.
I would have bought this a year ago, had it happened when I was looking.
You really do pay more for construction, materials, and accuracy with the higher level models.
You get a much more consistent grind, which for the nerds allows for even extraction across the board, and the more expensive ones can usually do a finer grind.
If you’re making coffee machine coffee and just like fresh roasted beans ground daily (because it’s indeed superior 
) then a Mr coffee grinder is probably doing it’s job for you. If you make espresso on a nice machine with high pressure, you want a nice consistent grind that you can dial in for your picky machine lol.
We were between this and the Capresso version in the same price point, I’d definitely scoop this up if you’re in the market for a grinder.
One thing to be aware of with these is that they are loud. I bought one elsewhere in 2018, and still use it daily with an occasional cleaning every 6mo or so.
I keep looking for a quieter one, but for some reason, decibels isnt something talked about in most reviews or comments.
If you dont care, then this is a good price, and i wouldn’t worry about the refurbished status one bit.
This is a great grinder, especially at this price point. If you’re grinding for espresso, just be aware that there’s a better version of this (Encore ESP) with additional fine grind settings in the espresso range so you can really dial in your grind, but if not, this is a great buy.
It is so nice when you get used to good coffee. We bought a Moccamaster coffee brewer awhile ago and it improved our coffee experience once we figured it out, but we were still using a blade grinder which gave inconsistent results. Then we got this grinder via Woot and all of the pieces fell into place. I read lots of reviews and followed the advice of someone who had narrowed down the grind size for our coffee maker. The first cup was amazing - so many flavor nuances. It still is amazing… consistently so, in part because the grind is the same every time. And now I really just used to good coffee.
Have had this grinder for almost a decade now. It has been demoted to grinding decaf and just recently pour overs and French press. For many years we used this for espresso and it was good but espresso has a way of making you chase ever elusive flavors with money and more gear.
This is a great buy and very modifiable and or repairable. It is not that loud but you can hear it and it retains a small amount in the plastic container the grinds fall into - that’s probably the reason for the messy comments, easy to work around. Buy it if you have a blade grinder or cheap burr

I think it was $90 or thereabouts.
Received mine without an on/off knob. Machine has coffee grounds still in it and on it. Looks more like used then refurbished.

As for the coffee grounds, that’s not unusual as the items are probably tested before sending them back out.
