Or get this http://www.amazon.com/BenQ-W1070-1080P-Theater-Projector/dp/B00A2T6X0K/ref=sr_1_1?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1419663075&sr=1-1 for $100 more and get one of the best 1080p projectors for around $1000.

It would be silly to pull the trigger on this. $600 is way too much for a WXGA projector.

ok resolution as a computer monitor, as a tv, not so much

The lumen output is good, but as others have said, there’s very little market anymore for resolutions less than 1080p.

For business, if you have need for a projector, then you probably ready have a laptop. And if you have a laptop, you probably have 1366x768, which 16:9. This projector at 1200x800 is 16:10, so there a mild scaling issue that could crop up for your PowerPoint presentation.

For gaming, 720p is going to be bottom-barrel as far as screen real estate goes. Certainly not worthy of any PC gaming. And most consoles are all 1080p. So it’s not well suited for that either

For TV/movies, at best you might get 720p, but that is not going to do any BluRays any justice.

So why buy into this relative low res at this price so late into the game? (Serious question looking for an answer.)

My recommendation is to pick up any of the Optoma 1080p (or better) projectors that Woot is always selling. I’ve had mine for 3-4 years now. Been projecting a 133" screen in my home theater / gaming setup, have not quite a thousand hours on the ORIGINAL bulb. And my model was a refurb (IIRC) for around $580… 3-4 years ago.

Recommendation goes to waiting for another Optoma sale and get a bit more “current spec” unit for same price.

Meh… That $600 needs to be $300 for a 720p projector.

There are too many good 1080p projectors in the $600 range (including the BenQ W1070).

#9

What is the model of the $1000 projector you are referring to?

#10

He posted a link right in his post it is the W1070 it is around 689 on amazon right now.

benq also offers a newer version, the ht 1075 but it is about 200 dollars more and only marginally better.

For anybody thinking about buying the woot deal here is a calculator to help set up your room

This one has been tempting me.

Optoma HD26 Full 3D 1080p 3200 Lumen DLP Home Theater Projector with MHL Enabled HDMI

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LL2SHK6/ref=psdc_300334_t3_B00A2T6X0K

Its only $5 more than the one posted above as the other projector to buy but i believe it has better stats (contrast etc.)

I bought the HD20 4.5 years ago from woot (my first big purchase from this site). I’ve really enjoyed it and it still gives people the ‘wow factor’. I play super smash on it regularly w/o issue.

I have a ‘budget setup’ where i bought some black out cloth for $20 and tacked it into my wall for the screen, bought the aformentioned refurb projector, and a cheap mount on sale from another 1deal per day site, 5.1 inexpensive speakers and a receiver both from woot. All in all not too much in for a good set up, (i did buy too much of a receive, the pioneer elite, where i’m not utilizing nearly everything it can do or pump out).

Any thoughts on the projector i linked compared to this sale or the other linked? I’m thinking the projector in this post is better for than both for not much more $$.

Another owner of the W1070. Suck it up and buy it. It is an amazing projector for the price. Don’t buy this one. You will regret it.
