I bought one of these, same brand, only in white for considerably less $ a few years ago. They’re kinda fun. My big oven had crapped out, and it was nice to be able to brown things again.
Then the light bulb that it uses for heat went out. I couldn’t find a replacement bulb.
I got another one, because that was still less expensive than fixing my oven.
It’s hard to find pans that fit it for baking. I think I remember it only takes 9 inch pans? I used to buy disposable foil pans for it.
Now I have a regular oven and a fancy schmancy Woot Breville countertop convection oven so my Big Boss air fryer is out in the garage, in the box, awaiting some fate I know not what of.
I had to do some searching on the Mother Ship because I couldn’t figure out how to search reviews on Woot!. Over there the word on the street is that this think makes the best Tater Tots, that gets my approval. Now I just have to check and see what the WAF on this is before I make one all hers.
I have this exact model. It does make the best tater tots. What I don’t like is the misleading pics that show a big pile of french fries in it. It can only cook things in a single layer. A single layer of fries in the little basket it comes with will feed 1 or 2 people at best depending on how much they like french fries (I can eat 2 batches by myself). I have had mixed results with things like chicken. I just have not tried that many other types of food to get the right mix of time/temp/tray height/etc.
Bought one last year on here … Crispy and greasefree food as described, better than oil cooking. Only cooks well in one layer as others have pointed out. My kids loved how easy it was to use.
The bad side is that the bulb stopped working 4 months in of light use. There are no replacement parts, so you are just out of luck.
Loved how well it worked, but I’m not happy with it’s short lived use for $60.
I have one of these I bought from the mothership for $89.99, so this seems like a good deal. It gets pretty heavy usage, simply doing things like chicken, veggies, etc so we don’t have to heat up the kitchen as much running the oven. I’ve had mine a little over 6 months with no issues.
Bought one of these back in December of 2016 to give it a shot. I Didn’t expect it to work as well as it did and it never ended up getting put away. We use it easily 3 to more days a week. Works great for reheating just about any fried food or just about any food really. I really have not found anything that I thought heated back up better in an oven. Except maybe lasagna in a pyrex.
I have cooked things like chicken breasts in it. I have a metal ring from a previous halogen oven and that works well to get some distance from the heating element. I do have to coat the chicken with olive oil and I still cook it on one side then the other. Turns out pretty good and most of the fat ends up in the bottom. Win-win.
Not an air fryer. I bought one of these last year and wound up giving it away. It doesn’t say “air fryer” on the package, and the surface is too diffuse to really do that. It is very unwieldy: the works - light, heating element, fan - are all in the lid and it weighs a ton. The interior gets covered with misted grease and it’s hard to find anywhere to put it down so you can get the food out. Real air fryers have small, deep, concentrated cooking areas and the temps get up to 400. This thing is more like an oversized Easy Bake oven.
