Decided to try this brand after the last batch of Five Star arrived without a roast date.
Well, this one didn’t either. So I guess I’ll keep looking for a brand that’s transparent and willing to do the bare minimum.
Specs say:
Best by: 06/23/2025 For all blends
How long is coffee good after it’s roast date? Is it the same for all coffees?
It can vary. 5lbs is a lot so I usually break it up into smaller bags and keep track of the taste over time. If I find a coffee doesn’t last as long I might buy something else or just make sure to drink it before other roasts I’ve purchased. I know the listing says roasted to order but I’m the suspicious type. Besides, it’s industry standard to include the roast date. Failure to do so could be an attempt to clear older stock at worst or laziness at best. Neither inspires my confidence to invest in five lbs at time.
So I finally got around to opening this Motivator blend up and trying some.
Not only did it not have a roast date as previously mentioned, it also does not match the description. This was advertised as a medium roast. It’s not. It’s dark. The beans are almost black, shiny and oily. I don’t hate dark roasts but I only drink them occasionally. I would never buy five lbs worth unless I was gifting some. And honestly, this isn’t good enough to gift. Very average. Not a ton of flavor. So now I’m stuck with 5 lbs of coffee I probably will only drink if I run out of everything else.
I I will not be purchasing this brand again. No roast date. Inaccurate description. Middling quality. Three strikes.
Here’s some pics of the whole beans and the ground product.
