Solid reviews over at Costco.com

I bought the older version of this about 6 years ago. It works great and it’s pretty quiet (the thermostat clicks off and on). My favorite feature is the “analog” temperature setting, no need to re-set it if the power goes off temporarily in the middle of the night.

After 4 or 5 years of HEAVY use (we run this almost non-stop from November to March in our mountain cabin kitchen) some of the plastic vents on top have dried out, cracked and broken. The heater still works great, but if you’re in a house with kids that might like to stick their fingers (or whatever) down in there it could be a problem. I wouldn’t expect that someone who’s running this 4 or 5 hours a day would ever see the problem we’ve had. I’d definitely buy it again.

We have one about 4 yrs old and we also run it a lot in winter. we use a pellet stove for our main heat but at night we turn off the pellets and run this heater on medium high in the living room. it works great to keep the house at around 60* until I turn on the pellet stove at 5:30 am when I get up to pee. If ours ever dies I will by a new one. it put out more heat faster than a oil space heater.

It is $79.49 on Bionaire website with the free shipping. I would think woot should do better then the original web site.

I have this exact unit sitting right beside me. It came from CostCo and it works well! They are selling for $84.99 at CostCo. It’s very quiet and pretty warm. You can have it on the highest setting and it’s not burning hot to the touch. It does a decent job of keeping the room warm. It heats up in less than a minute, far less than an oil heater. When you turn it off, it’s cool just as quickly.

Owners: How big of a space does this thing heat?

And you’re asking this because the SPECS page gives only the dimensions (what a surprise). I’m guessing its 120v AC. NO info on energy usage/wattage, settings, or btu output.
But they do manage to put in the typically inflated msrp, which is $20 higher than Amazon’s list price.

I’ve owned one of these for years, actually got it for free in exchange during a recall of the oil-filled heaters a few years ago. It is FAR superior to those, btw. It won’t heat the room quickly (convection), but it will maintain the heat economically over a long period of time. Good item.

Would you recommend this to run in a 3 car garage overnight (insulated) to keep the dogs warm?

PRICE REDUCED

Our buyer wants you to be warm. So much so that he’s lowered the price this morning to $69.99. You know you want it. Buy 3!

If you already purchased, that money will jump back in your pockets soonish.

Their website says up to 500sq (but does not give the BTU’s). If you read the reviews on Amazon, it has trouble heating spaces with high ceilings so you may need to take that into consideration.

Of course you could always plug in 2 (or more) of them… The thing I would worry about is it shutting off due to a dog tipping it over unless you had it on a workbench out of their reach or in a cage so they couldn’t get at it to knock it over. Of course if you did either of those things then any heater that was enough btu’s would work as you wouldn’t have to worry about the dogs getting burnt by a hot heater…

I’d use oil filled. You don’t want some dog lifting his leg on it.

What oil filled heaters were recalled and why? I don’t think ALL were recalled.

Have had two of these a couple years and recommend them highly. During the winter our cat hogs one though. Very steady heat, very silent. We have a large bedroom and it keeps the room toasty. Use it with your regular heating system and you won’t be disappointed.

Here’s the wonderful world of heater recalls, just in case you have a stinker and need to replace it: http://wemakeitsafer.com/Space-Heaters-Recalls

I own several of these. I have also purchased for family member who desired only space heat as she does not like “the whole house hot.” The work cleanly, quickly and safely. They are the only one I would use around children.
