would I be able to use Google Maps with this watch while synched to the phone? for example, getting directions as I walk, with reminder of the map direction from the watch, so I don’t have to look at the phone all the time.

This watch sucks ass. Not a good buy.
You have to have a SIM for this if you want to use it for anything other than messaging and the messaging screen is awful its so hard to type. This is not a good buy. You also can’t lock the watch so others can’t get into it. It’s cheap and bulky
