BOC Joining the Fight Against Covid-19!

I wanted to share my use of the bag that came with my last BOC. I have no idea how long ago that was… I’m not typically a lucky person.

Anyway, I read that some of the best materials to use as filters in diy masks was nonwoven polypropylene, and a good source of nonwoven polypropylene are the cheap, incredibly useful and abundant reusable shopping bags. Like the ones packed in the BOCs (if chance smiles upon you).

So WOOT - BOCs are not wasted on me. Literally.

Damn. Thought I was being subtle.

But seriously, we get these bags everywhere. Just wanted to point out that they have yet another use.

the only reason non-woven PP works is due to the electrostatic additive they put in there to trap particles down to 0.3 micron at 95% efficiency. The porosity is actually quite large and relies heavily on that electrostatic filtration. Just using plain PP fabric filters only as effectively as the porosity of the fabric. As such, a tightly woven fabric might be more beneficial.

People are coming up with great ideas! I so appreciate that we are sharing them worldwide.
