Because only pro athletes could afford it for their wives (not being sexist, men athletes make significantly more than women playing the same sport)

Not at all, as I said male pro athletes make significantly more than women playing the same sport - that is a fact. Whether a female pro athlete wants to buy it for herself, her wife, her daughter, her trans SO, her non binary partner, her mother, father, brother, the Uber driver - it is going to hurt their pocketbooks/wallets a whole heck of a lot more than a male pro athlete playing the same sport.
Here is the sexism:
The salaries alone (not including endorsements etc) in NBA were starting at $582,180 - 7x more than the WNBA started at $79,000 and 5x more than the CAP of $117,700 - which the minimum of a player with 3 yrs making $56,735
This is why we have shows like NBA Basketball Wives and not WNBA Wives and Husbands
