bought one of these and use it all the time. A little under powered for elm or two foot diameter logs, but then you just need to do them in layers. Electric so I could cut in the shed in winter however it doesn’t like real cold temps. It was either buy this or rent a twenty ton gas for $100/day. Yes the bigger one would be faster but now I split whenever I have a few minutes.
I would love one of these, but I just don’t have enough wood splitting needs to justify it. Maybe one day… a really bad mid-life crisis present to myself.
I’ve been using a similar (same capacity) splitter for the last 10 years. I can’t say anything about the quality of this particular model but I’ve run at least 50 cords of all types of wood through mine and it’s still working fine. I did have to replace the switch mechanism one time (the weakest link, IMO) but replacement parts are pretty easy to find. It is really nice to split in the garage with the radio on. Also, really big oak takes a patient approach, but eventually, it works.
Just got ours. Does yours make a high pitch whine (almost squeal)?? Also does the start button ever stick?? Ours did twice and I am a bit nervous. Thanks.
