Refurbished Breville Cordless Immersion Blender with Recharging Base, for $59.99 + $5 shipping
Product: 1x Breville BCS500XL 9.6 Volt Cordless Immersion Blender with Recharging Base
We used something like this at the national Mexican food chain I used to work at to mix our Adobo marinade… worked quite well, actually, though it was a little loud. Easy to clean though.
Woot misrepresented the last blender they sold on here. Claiming it had a 500 watt motor and a 2 year warranty when it had NEITHER. I had to return it at my own expense and am still waiting for them to do the right thing and reimburse me. I don’t mind paying to return item that was accurately described BUT when WOOT significantly misrepresents the item they should pay for their mistake not the consumer.
As for this item, even if properly described, it is overpriced and under powered.

So would this thing be able to whip up a batch of margaritas? Would be nice to take it tailgating and keep the ladies happy…

You should have disputed it with the credit card company as you werent supplied with what was advertised. Then let woot arrange for it to be picked up.
This looks interesting. The cordless feature would be nice, and I like that it comes with both a wall mount and a 1.2 liter mixing jar. I actually just bought an immersion hand blender set last week at my local Costco.
This Cuisinart set was only $30 at Costco, and with their great return policy, I couldn’t resist. I can’t speak for the quality of Breville, let alone a refurbished one, but the Cuisinart blender I’m using has been great so far (I’ve made a few smoothies and Asparagus soup). Also, it’s not cordless, but the cord is nice and long.
Alatest is weighted by the reviews from Amazon, where in lots of Amazonian asshats double-post and use reviews as a support forum.
However, bottom line IMO - if you’re looking for the power of a corded blender - buy a corded blender. I’d use this thing to whip up a protein shake, I’d not turn to it as a portable solution for making frozen margaritas.
Great for easy jobs like soup, but if you’re trying to do smoothies, or anything involving ice, you’d better think again… The blade will stall, and you’ll have to restart it. Also, long jobs are tedious because you have to continuously hold down the button, and it’s not the easiest button to push. Definitely not for the old or weak.
I have used these for years and typically burn them out in 6-12 months. (I’m using them for crafts and they stay on for ten-fifteen minutes at a time). I’ve found that the best ones are around ten bucks at stores like Brandsmart or HH Greg.
Smoothies? This thing will chop up frozen fruit and ice? It doesn’t really seem that powerful… What these ARE good for are pureeing soups. Boil some onions, carrots, sweet potatoes and butternut squash in chicken broth and once tender, stick this sucker in the pot even while it’s still hot for a creamy soup puree. I do need one of these now that I’ve got myself hungry…

I have this, and I use it more than any other small appliance. Makes smoothies, salad dressings, whipped cream, omelets, emulsions - all from scratch. Crunches ice as well as a standing blender, but won’t scratch the bottom of dishes and pans - great for pureeing soups in the pot!
The safety feature makes it impractical to use one-handed, though: you need to press both power and level buttons to keep it blending, so your container needs to be secured.
