This watch has a Miyota 8-Series 82S7 movement. 8-Series are budget movements, but 82S7 is close to top of the line in this series. It has two sub-dials, one for the seconds hand and one for a 24 hour hand which is useful only when you set the watch, or if you work in a submarine or an ICBM command bunker. The dial has a cutaway so you can see the movement’s wheels turning, and the case back is mineral glass so you can observe the whole movement, something you will do perhaps once. 82S7 gains 40 seconds per day, and if you use it for timekeeping you will reset every third day when it is 2 minutes fast. The movement hand winds and hacks which is desirable and cool, but it suffers from “Miyota stutter.” The mineral glass crystal is domed which looks retro and cool but it’s easier to scratch than a flat crystal. Its anti-reflective coating is magnesium fluoride like most watches and magnesium is a metal, so yes you could say it’s “metalized” but that’s advertising hype. The strap is imitation alligator, something I usually replace. I don’t collect gold plated watches, but at this price I would buy it with a sapphire crystal. Mineral glass is the deal breaker for me. Bulova was a notable American luxury watch brand from the 1920s through the 1960s. The Bulova brand name was bought by Japan’s Citizen Group in 2007. Citizen owns Miyota and puts Miyota movements in cheaper Bulova watches. More expensive Bulovas have Swiss Stellita movements.
