Cameras

I own the Pentax Q7 and even though I have a full DSLR kit, I find myself using the Q7 way more than I thought I would. It’s small enough where I can have it with me all the time. The image quality is great as long as light doesn’t get too low (iso 3200 is pushing it for this cam)and the ergonomics are actually really good - like DSLR good. I’ve always liked how Pentax menus work - I almost never refer to their owners manuals since things make sense (I’ve been taking photos pretty seriously for around 6 years though so YMMV).

Anyways, here are some photos that I’ve taken with the Q and the Q7:

Here’s a video that reviews the Q7:

no specs / details on sony rx100ii today?!? no 3rd party warranty option?

Not a great price on that Lumix G6. Easy to find better elsewhere. Now I remember why I haven’t been back to woot for a while.

Whoops, I’ll email to get that fixed.

There’s at least a couple refurb RX100 II’s at Amazon for effectively the same price, if those disappear, grab the RX100 II from here.

Everything else is cheaper elsewhere and/or not worth buying in the first place.

Don’t know anything about the Lytro stuff.

You have taken some very nice pics. Me likes.

I have not hear good about them.

I had the first generation. Fun for experiment, but the small screen is hard to use, esp in sunlight or if you have Presbyopia. The output seems like a 2MP camera.

The mother ship has it for $498.00 http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DMC-G6KK-Compact-Digital-14-42mm/dp/B00CFCTDD6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1418930051&sr=8-1&keywords=lumix+g6&pebp=1418930054040

I also have the Q7 and love it. I started out with the original Q and had a great time with it, but that camera body did have notable low-light issues due to the teeny sensor. The Q7 brings the sensor size up without taking away the tiny size of the whole kit. The 02 lens is nice too, but the 01 and 06 lenses are surprisingly competitive with DSLR glass, and a great addition to this kit. I’d be in for one if I didn’t already have the whole set.

On the other hand, I picked up the Lytro camera about a year ago, and I can’t really recommend it. It is really fun to play with, and surprisingly good in low light. However, the picture format is proprietary, and sharing pics with others turned into a choice between signing up for Lytro’s isolated little garden, or getting knee-deep in projects to decode the $#%$@ format. Feh. Not worth the trouble, I haven’t touched it in half a year.

Buy the Q7. Pass on the Lytro.

I’m assuming the Q7 is black and the write up was generic, as it states “available in 3 edgy color combinations”. Any confirmation?

The only color available for that offer is “black”.

Thanks for finding the discrepancy in the features listing! The sale should be updated.

Any word on the Lytro cameras? I heard that the quality of the images is in the small KB range.
