What’s a Manual?

I can manually change my automatic from park to drive! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Yes, and I learned on the hills of San Francisco.

70% of the poll respondents so far say they can drive a manual. 95% of cars are sold with automatics these days. Are Wooters disproportionately manual drivers (like me) or just liars?

What you can drive and what you buy are two separate things…

I learned to drive on a manual transmission but I haven’t owned a manual transmission car in probably 3 decades.

So yeah, it’s entirely possible both conditions you are saying can be true.

I imagine though, that the pool of available manual transmission drivers continues to get smaller each day.

I used to own a VW Bug, an MGB, and a Shelby Mustang. So yes, I can drive a manual. Do I now? No, I drive a Lexus, automatic.

Yep… I actually used to have a CDL so I was able to drive a manual big-rig for a few years, though I hardly ever got to drive it (worked for a training school and then went to a dispatch role at a new job). But we recently bought a 2013 Mazda Miata, and frankly, if you have an automatic Miata, then it’s not a Miata.

I was really skittish about learning how to drive it, but other than hill starts, it came to me pretty naturally. I plan on driving it a lot more often once the weather cools off a bit! Having a black soft-top is BRUTAL in the southeast.

I hope I can drive a Manual, that is how I got to work today.

Here is a link to a manual.

I am also teaching others to drive Manual, see if you can find me in the thread.

Pretty sure the poll should have a few other possible answers:

  1. Yes, proficiently, and I prefer it!
  2. If I really have to, yeah…
  3. I could probably figure it out.
  4. Heck no, that’s for the birds!

Driving a manual is one of those things that everyone should do at some point, along with waiting tables, seeing live music, and visiting other countries.

I can, but only in video games. I’ve never tried in the real world.
