Can't Spell Summer Without Zak! Designs

Also a clever way to make dirty dishes look clean! Sort of.

You should be a politician.

They discovered this pattern when the scientist was taken ill with swine flu back in 2010.

So, what is this stuff made from? Are they plastic, ceramic, glass? Not much in the description department.

according to woot’s product description: “Made with recycled melamine”.

What is melamine?

“Melamine is an organic compound that is often combined with formaldehyde to produce melamine resin, a synthetic polymer that is fire resistant and heat tolerant.”

So it is a plastic. However, it is not safe to use in a microwave and woot’s product description discourages microwave use:

“Not recommended for microwave use”

The reason is because:

Melamine resin is known as a thermoset plastic because it is fixed after molding. If exposed to enough heat, it will decompose. For this reason, this type of dishware should not be exposed to high temperatures such as those in an oven or microwave. This type of resin also is difficult to recycle.

Melamine became widely discussed when the Chinese added it to their milk products a few years ago:

Melamine became a subject of health concerns in the early 21st century, when it was determined to be the cause of death for some children and many pets. It was discovered that milk producers in China had added this compound to milk products in order to raise their nitrogen content, thereby raising their protein levels according to the simple testing procedures that are commonly used. These adulterated milk products were used in other products, such as pet food, infant formula and yogurt, that was sold to consumers in China and other countries.

Wow! So beautiful and colorful! Love…

Looks more like guacamole to me than confetti.

the plates look like the aftermath of a skittles & vodka party

These are some of the thickest melamine plates I’ve found. Most melamine dishware is only top rack dishwasher safe which is a fail for large plates. These can go in the bottom rack. Plus, they are pretty!
