Wow, I was just about to pull the trigger (lol) on a competitor’s crossbow, but then this one comes up at a much better price! Thanks again, Woot!

The PERFECT weapon for the Zombie apocalypse. #Daryl

This really looks great and at a great price too!

You’ll put your eye out !!

no need to go to college and learn…

just spend all that money on guns. If someone doesn’t agree with you, shoot them!

Is this one Daryl approved?

If you think this is a gun, I don’t think college is going to help you.

This should get rid of my mouse problems

Touché. Though I do feel like that’s giving the original comment too much credit.

So here’s my beef. Why is a crossbow the perfect weapon for the Zombie apocalypse? And why does every post apocalypse movie have someone with one? Is something happening during the apocalypse that renders gunpowder noncombustible? To make gunpowder obsolete the level of oxygen in the atmosphere would have to decrease so much that firing weapons would be the least of our worries. Unless you’re retrieving used bolts out of the corpses of the living dead, your not reusing them. So reusabilty is not better. I would imagine there is a lot more 00 buckshot rounds around than crossbow bolts. All other considerations (lethality, ease of operation, reload time, payload, ability to manufacture ammunition) point to a shotgun as well.

Exact same item in the “Sports & Outdoors - open box clearance” section of Woot for $292.99.
Still listed as new - just open box.

Gunfire attracts zombies, whereas this thing is a lot more silent.

…zombie talk aside, I’ve always wanted a crossbow, does anyone who knows anything about actual crossbows know if this is a decent one?

With a crossbow, as you pointed out, the ammunition is reusable as long as you’re retrieving the bolts. You can’t do this with 00 buck, so contrary to your assertion the re-usability is, in fact, better.
Reloading shotgun shells is not easier than crafting a crossbow bolt. One requires a special press, powder, shot, wadding, primers, and knowledge of the load and the process.
The other requires a stick, a sharp rock, some feathers, and string to bind it all.
Here’s the pièce de résistance, a crossbow is /silent/ and in a world where noise brings both the restless dead as well as unscrupulous characters shambling/running to investigate, silence truly is golden.

This! Ignore the trolls.

Yes you will be very happy with one, do not fire empty! Enjoy the sport and Happy hunting if that is what you plan on doing. Very enjoyable sport in the early fall.

OK in the lone zombie situation it makes more sense. Assuming zombies are attracted not scared away from noise. The science isn’t quite settled.

If you are in a situation where your handcrafting bolts out of sticks, you’ve definitely made it a lot further in the apocalypse survival game than I ever planned to make it. I was talking about finding manufactured shotgun shells vs. manufactured bolts

Y’all should just play 7 Days to Die (PC version, not the crap console one), and all of your zombie survival skills would be put to the test…

At any rate, lines like these alarm me:

Military AR-Style Design

…really? I’d rather the design be “Efficiently Designed to maximize power and accuracy”.

Saying it’s designed to resemble a military assault rifle screams “buy this for the looks, the quality sucks”.

Why would ability to manufacture ammunition be better with a gun? I’m no expert but I would assumed gunpowder is difficult to produce yourself.

Where as you can make a arrow out of a stick and rock.

Also it’s possible being quiet would be of a benefit against zombies. Perhaps more stealth protection is desired.

But again, I have zero knowledge of these suppose zombies or really seen any zombie movies, so I could be off base here.
