Gahhh! This is a honing steel. It does not sharpen. Important? Yes. Do it weekly. But you still need to really sharpen your blades, every so often.
Since it is coated with diamond abrasive bits, it will do some sharpening. I will concede it would not sharpen as well as using a good stone or diamond ‘stone.’
