Yes but you didn’t factor in the additional value and fun of getting to fuss with Woot support vs. the easy Amazon returns.

That’s woot! for you. No surprise there, except, perhaps, that it’s actually cheaper.

Eat’N Tool? How about Eat’N Freakin Cool!

It’s been YEARS since I bought anything on Woot.
It used to be a fun place. Now it’s kind of lame.
Such a shame :frowning:

I purchased these items on a previous Woot sale, and I can’t really recommend it.

The knife on the Guppie is fine, as is the adjustable wrench; but neither is great, and the form factor is terrible unless you absolutely need those tools on a carabiner for some reason.

The driver is a joke. The plastic clip doesn’t hold the bits securely enough that I would feel comfortable leaving it on the Guppie, and it adds a lot of bulk. The shape of the Guppie also makes it awkward to use.

The bottle opener on the spork is silly and gets in the way. And it’s not like opening a bottle really requires a special tool (you can easily open a bottle with the wrench part of the Guppie). The sockets on the spork are also nearly useless. Maybe they’re good if you mountain bike or something specific, but if so you’d be better off with a tool made specifically for your intended use. The spork might be decent if you cut/grind off the bottle opener, but I haven’t bothered trying yet.

The biggest issue, and it is true of every part of this pack, is the shape. The Guppie’s shape makes using its tools awkward, the wrench is too short to give a significant mechanical advantage, and the wrench and driver only work for fasteners that aren’t obstructed in any way. The spork suffers the same issue, in that it widens to makes space for the sockets and bottle opener, which makes it impossible to actually get it in to a can or jar of food.

This is one of those items that I’m sure looked really clever when someone was making it in CAD, but in the real world all the cleverness gets in the way of actually using the tools. I thought it might be a good bit of kit to throw in my backpack that I carry most days (I don’t hike, so weight wasn’t a concern), but it has sat in a box since the first week I had it.

Yeah, it’s rare Woot deals are actually “deals” these days. And when they are, they’re usually only a deal if you’re ordering multiple things. The $5 shipping usually makes it the same or more than the mother ship. (Especially sad since most of those prices are inflated slightly to cover Prime’s “free” shipping.)

As you say, it’s a real shame. Woot used to be filled with good deals and good jokes. Still, I occasionally find some great stuff at great prices here. (Like my Yukon Outfitters packs or TruSpec cargo pants.)

Thanks for the great info. Cheers.
