I recall the last time an ice cream maker was posted, someone mentioned something to the effect that you can only make one dish at a time if it’s a bowl style (as the bowl has to be frozen). If that’s true (is it?) that’d apply to this model, yeah?

i agree with the previous reviewer–not sure why/how this would be refurbished…but it is a fantastic machine! we use ours all the time, and it really does a nice job.

4.5 stars at Amazon

so this is the type you have to freeze first, right? before you can make the ice cream…

I bought one of these at this price a few days ago from TigerDirect and made peach ice cream tonight. Paid for itself in one night.

I own one of these (a red one) and it works incredibly well. I absolutely love mine. And the ice cream recipe I use is the one from Alton Brown. We also have one of these at my culinary school. We use it all the time. One key thing to remember is always keep the bowl in the freezer, that way you can make ice cream whenever you want and you don’t have to worry about whether or not the bowl in completely frozen. If I didn’t all ready own two, I would by another one in a heart beat.

And here we go, Amazon!

Nice at twice the price

I have this ice cream maker. Works fine, but you must get the bowl extremely cold, and pre-chill the batch or it won’t work.

FWIW, I have the stainless version of this machine and it’s awesome. The only drawback is you have to have room in your freezer to erm, freeze the bowl for a few hours before making ice cream. Okay, the only other drawback is that everything I’ve made so far, while utterly delicious, is also utterly unhealthy-far more so than what you buy in the store… Let’s see, half and half, whipping cream, whole milk, sugar, fruit.

Oh but did I mention how delicious homemade ice cream is? Hmmm…

No. It makes a quart and a half at a time. I grant that if your dish is also a quart and a half, yes, it makes one dish.

I have one of these. You have to freeze the white container for a day before you use this. It makes about 1 quart of ice cream. You need to eat the ice cream after making it or freezing it quickly. It doesn’t add in enough air to keep the ice cream soft after being in the freezer a while. Leave the ice cream in the freezer more than a few hours and it becomes quite hard.

Its okay for a cheap ice cream maker.

I just bought this on another site and am very pleased with it. My wife’s first batch was a little too soft so we checked some reviews online and found that chilling all the ingredients prior to mixing helps a lot.
We’ve also found that there’s som in the vanilla flavoring that don’t allow the ice cream to freeze. Adding the vanilla at the end of the mixing cycle allows for for best soft serve ice cream you could ask for!

Overall we are very very pleased with the purchase. Best of all it only takes 20 to make yourself some homemade ice cream!

Cuisinart lives here.

[MOD: Oh, come on! You’ll have to do better than that ]

Well, er - maybe some of the Wooters want to compare different products. Yeah - that’s the ticket!

agreed! but we also like making sorbet–mighty tasty and much better for ya. <=b

I have this model or one similar to it and it works great but the bowl hogs space I can’t spare in the freezer so I never use it. I think I made two batches of ice cream in it before shelving it. I got it as a gift from a survey company so it paid for itself right away.

Have had one for a few years. Works pretty well.

If the ice cream recipe involves any heating of ingredients on the stove, you definitely have to pre-chill the liquid well before you pour it into the machine.

The canister will need to be put into the freezer over-night before using.

The motor is LOUD AS HECK though. I usually take it into a bedroom or bathroom and shut the door to let it run.

We have one of these…got it as a wedding gift 15 years ago and it’s still going strong! We use it a couple of times every Summer. Always keep the bowl in the deep freezer so it’s ready when we are. The vanilla is so easy and it tastes fantastic!! Other flavors take some preparation (sometimes the day before) but the results are invariably awesome!

Oh…and we can’t forget…on the package when we got ours it highlighted the “Easy to Use On/Off Switch!” and I must say; it is, in fact, quite easy to use.

Buy with confidence and enjoy!
