Watch the sizes though on recipes. This crock pot is smaller than your typical one and you may need to scale things.

I think 3 1/2 quarts is just too small for our uses. Would work for smaller fare, but if you want a big workhorse, I think 6-8 quarts would be better. Anyone else agree/disagree? My wife wants a new crock pot, but I think I will pass on this one…

3-4 quarts will work for a dinner for 2 or as a side dish for a family of 4-6. If you’re cooking whole roast or larger peices of meat you’ll need something bigger. 6 quarts is a good size. 8 quarts is pretty huge.

Agreed. What a bummer.

i agree with you. i would do anything in the 6-8 quart size, tho this is a god piece of hardware for what it is.

I have had this crockpot for a year, and I use it more than my bigger 5qt one. It’s great for cooking chicken breasts, and I’ve also made dips and desserts in it as well.

The smaller size means it cooks a little faster than a larger pot as well. The timed settings are great, as sometimes I don’t want to leave something cooking for 9+ hours while I am at work, so I can set it to cook for 6 hours and then turn to the “warm” setting.

Overall, I think it is great, and this is a good price for it.

I’ve been wanting to replace my 4-quart crock pot with one that has a countdown function like this. However I don’t think this is the one. As previously mentioned, it’s just not big enough. I also NEED it to have a locking lid because I frequently transport food in a full crock pot in my car. A locking lid prevents anything from sloshing out.

I never ever use my 6 1/2 quart slow cooker because it’s just too big. If this is still on sale when I get home so I can see what Cook’s Illustrated thought of it, I’ll probably go for one.

And just so we don’t break the mods’ hearts by missing an opportunity…

THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID

Newegg has what appears to be the same slow cooker for the same price and free shipping. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=1C5-0008-00001
