For the guys who feel left out, I have this pack and it’s great: TETON Sports Oasis 1100 Hydration Backpack. Currently $41.40. It has the same capacity (water and storage) as this Day Star 18. I have been watching them for a price drop to buy my wife one, but once woot dropped the price of the Camelbak to $30, I couldn’t pass it up.
I bought a CamelBak women’s pack years ago…being a woman I thought it would fit better. Nope…ended up returning it. Guess at my taller-than-average height just a normal pack works better. It just felt like I was wearing one made for a child. They would probably work well for a very petite woman.
I bought the Helena 22 from another site for about $50. This is an amazing deal for $40! The bladder alone costs around $30 so you are only paying about $10 for a high quality pack! I just got the smaller Day Star 18 so I have more size options. Here’s my review of the Helena 22:
This is a great hydration pack with 19L of room to stow your jacket, lunch, snack bars and other items on your hike. The included 3L Antidote bladder is stored in a separate pocket so it is well insulated and stays upright with the ledge custom made for the Antidote. For extreme winter or summer days, you can always buy the insulated tube to replace the included uninsulated one to keep your water cool. In addition, there are also 2 side packets that fit 1 L Nalgene bottles so you can even swap out the bladder for bottles on certain trips if you desire. When not hiking, the Helena can work as a great commuter or campus bag. You can take out the bladder and use its compartment to hold a tablet as this compartment has great padding for extra protection, far better than most dedicated laptop backpacks.
The pack is relatively narrow and the torso length fits women well. I am 5’1" with a 15.5 inch torso length and this pack is a great fit for me.
The Mykonos Blue/Blue Jewel is a great color as it screams less of “girlie girl” than the other two available colors. Material quality is excellent and I expect many years of enjoyment from this well-made pack.
I highly recommend this hydration pack to all women.
I ordered a Day Star for me and just told Sis about this deal. She also wants one of each. Is there any way to combine my order since it’s shipped to the same address?
Can anybody speak to how well this pack works for men? I’ve been thinking about investing in a Camelbak for a while now and this would be a great time to do it, but I don’t want to grab something that won’t sit quite right.
