Hello. I purchased the 300W with the wireless sub at the last Woot appearance.

The soundbar turns off every 4 seconds. Either this is the greatest energy-saving device in history, or it was defective. Generally I don’t need sound if say the weather girl is on (meteorologist, sorry) or when I have memorized the entire script of a movie such as Varsity Blues, “I don’t want yer life”; however in normal cases I’d like some audio. According to the Internet (reliable source), it could be the “stand-by” mode, (not to be confused with the “Stand By Me” mode, which is nothing more than a dead body on a train track). However, I have successfully turned this mode off and the problem persisted.

I was told by Sony that the “stand-by” mode cannot be completely disabled. However, I found that it can be done by simply placing all the components back in the box and returning them.

I had a problem like that with a different brand sound bar that I had just purchased. Problem was resolved after pairing the sound bar with the tv thru the tv’s settings.

I paired the soundbar through both ARC and optical; LG’s pairing and external output mode. I tried it all and as much as I have been a Sony fan, I think their quality is dwindling.

Can someone recommend a good budget speaker pairing for this receiver? I’m getting it for my mother, she’s been bugging me for a new audio setup at her house. Thanks!

How many speakers do you want, and how much do you want to spend?

You’d probably want a minimum of two speakers, but I recommend three, since the center channel helps a lot with dialog.

I am probably in the minority, but I think you get much better sound buying good left and right speakers, with 8" woofers, than spending a similar amount on five tiny surround speakers and a tiny “subwoofer” that has a smaller driver than decent bookshelf speakers have.

$89.32 for 5.1 system. Shipping is a little steep though. This is what I use with mine. I got my receiver through a woot off. Make sure to check the ohm rating of the speakers and the receiver. This speaker set is 8 ohm which is compatible with this receiver.
