Happy St. Patrick’s Day Woot! We were so excited when Woot asked us to come back and do another phone deal for you all! We’ve brought our most popular phones here (at our lowest prices too), so we hope you’ll like them. They are all LTE Phones that allow you to take advantage of our free service. We’ll be here to answer any questions in this forum or via PM!

Here are some FAQs about the deall:

1. What’s the coverage or network do these phones work on?
All of these phones connect to Sprint’s 4G LTE and 3G networks. You can check out coverage by going to www.freedompop.com/coverage3g4g. Be sure to only select the 4G LTE and 3G boxes. The phones also connect to any local WiFi network!

2. What’s FREE?
You purchase the phone, and then you can take advantage of Free Phone service. Our Free plan consists of 200 Minutes, 500 Texts, and 500MB of 4G LTE/3G data every month. There is no cost for 3G access.

3. I just got my phone from Woot. Now what?
Go to www.freedompop.com/activate in order to activate your phone! Here you will set up your FreedomPop account and choose your phone number!

4. Can I port my existing number over to FreedomPop?
Yes, you can port your number over to your FreedomPop phone after it’s fully activated. Alternatively, you can keep your newly chosen FreedomPop phone number for the whole time. It’s entirely call!

5. Do you still an $0.99 inactivity fee?
Nope, it’s a thing of the past. We stopped it last year.

6. How is call quality when compared to a normal phone?
Our phones use VoIP, but we make every effort to make sure that you can’t even notice. Our Development Team is constantly working to make improvements to the service in order to make call quality better and better. You will be asked to update the Messaging App (in the Google Play store) from time-to-time, but this is done only to improve your overall phone experience!

7. Is Data deducted from my monthly allotment when I’m connected via WiFi? How about Calls & Texts?
Any data that is used while you’re connected via WiFi is not deducted from your Free 500MB allotment. However, calls & texts that are used while on WiFi will be deducted from your monthly allotment, since they are still going through our Messaging App.

8. How do I get extra Voice Minutes and Texts beyond my free allotment? How about data?
Once you reach your 200 Voice Minutes and 500 Text Message limit, you would need to upgrade to a higher plan if you wish to have continued usage for the remainder of the month. Our Unlimited Talk & Text plan is $10.99/month, while the Unlimited Everything plan (unlimited talk, text, & data) is $19.99/month.

9. Can I enable tethering on the phone? What about voicemail?
Both are available as a value added service. Tethering costs $3.99/month and Visual Voicemail costs $2.49/month. Even better, you can subscribe to our Premier Service which bundles all of our popular services (including tethering and voicemail, plus Data Rollover, Usage Alerts, Security, Data Compression, and Premium Support) for $9.99/month.

**10. Are these phones new? **
There are Certified Pre-Owned Phones. While there has been some usage on the devices previously, they have been thoroughly inspected and repackaged by our logistics department and not a third party manufacturer. There have been physical damage checks, functionality checks, data wipe and factory reset, and radio frequency tests.

11. I have a billing issue. Can you help?
Please contact our support team if any billing issues come up. We also have a very active Community Forum that you can check out here

12. What’s up with the reviews and customer service issues?
We’ve received a lot of criticism over the the past year stemming from our initial wireless hotspot policies. We’re a startup company attempting to disrupt the wireless telecommunications industry by competing against the big guys with billion $$ marketing budgets and nearly unlimited resources. Everyone has an opinion, good or bad. Major publications who’ve reviewed our product including Forbes, PC Mag, Top Ten Reviews, Clark Howard, and TUAW who have been impressed with our service and respect our efforts of making free internet accessible to everyone.
The good news is we’ve listened to these criticisms and updated our policies as a result. We’ve definitely made a lot of changes since our initial launch to improve our service, but if you have any other specific questions, feel free to ask.
We’ve also beefed up our customer service team considerably over the last year. We encourage you to come to FreedomPop HQ anytime to meet the team in person. Like any customer service team, we do experience times with high call volume, but you can always email us via support@freedompop.com or PM us during the course of this woot deal.

FreedomPop Reviews and Ratings[list]

Tons of info and comments on a Previous Sale

I have never used FreedomPop myself, but when I read reviews like these, it’s pretty hard to want to give them a try.

We listen to all feedback (both good & bad) and do our best efforts to improve all aspects of our service. We’re not perfect (no company is!), but we are trying as hard as we can to get there one day. Hope you consider giving us a shot!

I bought one of these about a week ago from another site, I know I am taking a risk with some of the weird billing they did in the past but hoping that it changed.

Thanks for joining the team! Hope you enjoy the life of having no cell phone bill

I bought one through Woot months ago. It turns out “free” means $10/month. When I refused to pay, they cancelled the service to my phone. Save yourself grief and pass this deal by.

It sounds like you may have either been signed up a paid talk & text plan, or our Premier service. Please feel free to contact us if there are ever any billing issues.

Sounds interesting but I am going to do some reading before I make a decision.

I read the reviews. Pretty frighting.

I’m having a hard time with the “coverage map” on FreedomPop’s website. What info can you give me as far as availability goes, for the Central Nebraska area?

I’m sure that is the case. The problem is that is seems impossible not to sign up for the paid service. “feel free to contact us”, that’s a laugh. Zero service from FP.

Warning! This company is well known for tricking people into different plans and making it impossible to change. They will keep charging you every month despite telling you that your account has been corrected over and over. These guys are the ultimate nickel and dime rip-off artists!

You can check out all of our products at www.freedompop.com/products

If you’re having trouble using our coverage map, you can also go to http://coverage.sprint.com. Be sure to select the “Data” tab and look at 4G LTE and 3G. Our phones can also connect to any WiFi network (such as the one at your home, work, or local library).

We’re constantly increasing the size of our Customer Support team in order to accomodate the increase in our user base. I’d definitely recommend checking out our Community Forum http://forums.freedompop.com

Please contact us if there are ever any billing issues on your account. You can even PM me here and I’ll try to help you out myself.

I thought about getting a FreedomPop cell for quite a while, at least until I did my homework. I read the reviews, looked at the way the pricing nickel and dimes you for basic things, the near complete lack of customer support.

Realizing that I wouldn’t even get data in most locations anyways, I then went with Ting. I’d advise anybody thinking about FreedomPop to check the coverage, and rates, it’s probably not going to be as “free” as you think.

It’s good to see Freedompop trying at least.

Personally…I think to get happy consumers, just offer a fair and competitive price for true “unlimited 4G”.

Then, sell the “separate” unlimited 3g accounts for completely free to everyone if they buy the dongle or phone.

I would never offer a mix of speed, it confuses people and they get grumpy.
You can’t mix a T1 broad connection with regular dsl and you can’t mix LTE with Wimax so don’t mix 4g with 3g.

I definitely agree with you in Woot-ers checking coverage first. Connecting via WiFi is always an option if you find your in an area without coverage.
As long as you’re signed up for only the Free Plan, you won’t have a monthly bill. I got both of my parents Samsung Galaxy SIIIs on the free plan, and it’s worked great for them.

Some billing issues stem from a free trial period. We have offered free trials of our paid plans/services, which then automatically renewed after the 1st month if it’s not cancelled (just like Netflix or Spotify). But if users downgrade to the free plan, there won’t be any charges!

Thinking of going with the service but I had a few questions.

1: I can’t seem to find the 19.99 plan on your website. There’s a 10.99 plan, and a yearly plan that looks to be identical but no 19.99 plan.

2: How unlimited is the unlimited data in that plan? Will I be throttled down from 4g/4g lte after 5 gb or 500 megs or never?

3: Can you port a number over?
