These are legit water filtration systems. I used the Sawyer Squeeze for the Wonderland trail (11 day backpacking trip) a few years ago and was happy with it.
Make sure to hang on to the backflush syringe and maintain the filter somewhat regularly. If it gets clogged in the backcountry it’s a bummer, AND you risk blowing out one of the mylar-like bags because you’re squeezing so hard to push the water through the clogged filter (lesson learned on my part).
If you need a lightweight water filter, don’t hesitate to grab one or more of these inexpensive life savers.
[quote postid=“6214782” user="emc2cube"I wish we can have free delivery on woot when we are prime member on amazon… I mean they are the same company so why not?[/quote]
Yeah, I agree, often times I’ve seen woot or affiliate offers and thought “that’s a good price” but not for five bucks shipping, with an indeterminate shipping time.
I used the sawyer mini on the Appalachian Trail for 8 days. It worked very well for me. Tip: If your doing winter or cold camping, sleep with it in your bag so the filter doesn’t freeze. I saw this happen to someone.
We’ve all read about those people trapped in a little boat at sea for days or weeks who survive on birds, fish, and water filtered by a Sawyer Mini Water Filtration System. Can you imagine if THEY weren’t smart enough to buy this the last time it was on Woot?
I was ready to buy until I checked Amazon, the 24.95 water bottle is 29.95 with free freight, so it’s a push unless you buy more than one😕 As much as I enjoy waiting around to see how long Woot takes before shipping my order(s), I really need one for an upcoming hike. Gotta go with the Mother Ship.
No, they are not the same company. woot is owned by Amazon and they both operate on different revenue models and margins.
Amazon operates on pretty thin margins and I suspect woot is even thinner and to extend the Prime free shipping to woot would cut into those margins even creating a loss.
They apparently noticed and dropped the prices on the 4-pack and 2-pack. The new prices on the 4-pack beat Amazon’s current price by $16 even after you factor in the $5 shipping. It’s about $11 lower than they’ve ever been at Amazon (I’ve been watching these for a while).
As a side note, the one flaw with your math is that you can only order 3 of the individual ones, so you couldn’t get the exact same deal. However, I ordered them as two 2-packs, which did save a few bucks. Now that the price dropped, I’ve contacted Woot CS to see if they’ll switch my order (I wanted the colored pack anyway).
You are correct. I believe the old Woot cart would have blocked you at 3 items per site, not per item page. I haven’t ordered a max of items in almost 4 years, so my bad. Either way, they have fixed the weirdness with the prices.
