Solid reviews (3.8 out of 5.0) on the 48" model over at walmart.com

I purchased a 60" KDL60W630B back in December for $999 new from a local electronics store- I know the model is slightly different then the 60" model here but physically it looks exactly the same and my biggest complaint would be present in this model as well. The problem is the stand- it has a fancy design but it is not well thought out. If you ever have to actually turn the TV to get behind it, it’s now a 2 person job. The stand doesn’t have a solid bottom, if it is brought over the edge of the table even an inch the TV will fall right over. My older model had a solid bottom to the stand- you could turn the TV with just one person, at least for a short period of time.

My second biggest complaint I’m sure is also present. Although it has 4 HDMI ports only 1 of them will pass digital audio out via the optical cable to sound bar or other audio system. It is laughable that in this digital world audio is still being carried over red/white RCA jacks and/or mini-jack (headphone) plugs.

My final complaint was with the built in apps- they are slow and not intuitive. Ignore the built in apps completely and get an Amazon Fire TV and you’ll be much happier.

Overall though it is a great picture at a good price.

I believe these prices are 25% too high. Especially since remanufactured does not come with same warranty.
I did better at xmas sales for new units.

People still use the stands? LOL

On a serious note, I think this is why so many TV manufacturers make the flimsy stands, is because a large majority of people just detach them and hang them on the wall, or one of those TV stands that has the hanging post on it.

Because of that, why spend the money manufacturing heavy duty stands when everyone is going to just put them in the attic anyway? Doesn’t make good business sense.

Now this is of no benefit to you as a customer, but they are going for majority, not minority for sales.

Same with just about any other product out there that has that one flimsy piece of whatever it is. Its probably the piece that nobody uses in favor of an aftermarket solution.

I’m struggling over if this is a good price given the remanufactured status (BTW, I have a 65 remanufactured Vizio that’s been awesome so I’m not shy about buying a returned unit). Do they come with any warranty at all – did I miss that?

Buying the same set at Costco is going to run about $500 more. But you get a full warranty.

Nevermind – I found that info (90 days)

It appears the 60" and 70" have 120 Hz refresh rates and the 48" and 40" have 60 Hz refresh rates.

My rule of thumb is never pay over $10 an inch on a TV that is 60hz. When possible try to pay as close to $10 an inch on a refurbished 120hz tv.

Are these sets refurbished by Sony or a third party?

Ha ha! Those knuckle draggers who use stands! LOL!

You hung your TV, good for you. Want a cookie? Do you actually have statistics about the number of people who hang versus use the stand or do you just assume anybody with sense does it like you because you’re so awesome?

I happen to prefer my set up. Before I bought my first big flat-screen I looked long and hard for the perfect entertainment center and found it. Just perfect. Classy looking, perfect size and shelf height, looks natural holding anything from a 52 to 65 (possibly even 70), lots of shelves and drawers for all my components, TV PC, accessories, and whatnots, including a shelf for my big Paradigm center that looks like it was made for it. I even customized the thing with a thermostatic exhaust fan to cool down my big ol’ receiver. I’ll never hang my main TV.

I hung my bedroom TV and added an outlet because that made sense there. But I make no conclusions or judgments about the rest of the TV-buying population because of it.

You must buy lot of TV’s if you have rules of thumb about it.

I hate hanging TVs. I prefer to have my TV on a stand as it’s easier to change the position without worrying about something falling down or being at too high of an angle.

I also use my TVs as computer monitors which are much more comfortable at a closer range on a stand in my personal opinion.

I agree with your statements, the previous person is pompous at best.

If you’re eyeing the 60” you should know that lately Walmart has been selling the KDL-60R510A for $698 plus free shipping on their website. It’s a model down but it’s new and it seems to get similar reviews on picture quality as this one everywhere I’ve looked. Unfortunately it’s currently back up to $900. But they had it at $689 for a while so I’m hoping they will again.

I am looking at the 70" model. Does anyone have experience – good or bad – with Woot deliveries of large TVs? What delivery service is used?

The 40 inch has Sony in the title and Samsung in the description. Also, there are no dimensions listed.

Edited to add: I’m not mentioning this to be a jerk; I’m genuinely interested in this TV and want to make sure the description wasn’t yanked from another TV and that it will fit in the space that I have.

Fixed now- we just got carried away with our “S” brands. Everything else is correct.

Is the Sony 48" TV wall mountable?

Anyone know what refurb or condition grade these would be, return by Sony or 3rd party?

Also curious about woots shipping quality on big screen TV’s?

From the reviews I’ve read online model ‘Sony KDL-60W610B’ gets about a star better with the better pic quality.
