BUYING GUIDE

Check out the Woot Buying Guide for HDTVs and tell us what you think!

Let’s hear from some SONY owners. Tell us about your experience.

The Sony KDL-48W580B is 60HHz not 120.

What about speakers? Do I need to buy them or do they come with?

Why aren’t there any width-height-depth form factor figures in the Specs page, Woot? I, like a number of other users, have limited installation space in an entertainment center. I particularly need to know the width of the unit. I found this on another site: with stand 36 1/2 × 23 × 6 1/2 inches ( 926 × 584 × 162 mm ) and Without stand 36 1/2 × 22 × 3 5/8 inches ( 926 × 556 × 89 mm ). Are those figures correct, especially the width?

Also, where are the speakers located? Or, as oddsbeater1 asks, are there speakers at all? If there are, are they on the sides or on the front? And if they’re on the front, do they extend all the way to the edges? Thanks.

Until you get it home and mount it on the wall. Then it doesn’t seem that big. I just bought a 65" TV and the first thing my wife said was I should have gotten a bigger one. :frowning:

The TV’s all come with speakers, but all skinny TV’s have CRAP sound. I have yet to hear a TV, no matter how expensive, that has decent sound. That’s why sound bars are so popular. Dialogue is particularly bad on skinny TVs.

I had the 70" model and loved it…as a 3D TV. Speakers were very good, picture and 3D were very nice…but…for Internet, it was Bad! You can Not connect a keyboard to it, so All of your searching, entering addresses, etc Must be done one key at a time with the remote!!
So…unless they have changed things since I returned mine last year for this reason…if you are expecting a Smart TV, this lacking feature makes the Sony Dumb…you Can get a wireless keyboard with a Samsung, which I now have. If you can afford it, get the 75"!

Sorry about the missing dimensions. Here they are:

KDL40W580 - 40" 45.13 x 6.88 x 29.25

KDL60R510 - 60" 59.63 x 11.75 x 38.38

the ladies always think size matters

I have the 60" and it is a great TV. Nice even color, pretty good blacks and it plays nice with my sony receiver.

That said I paid $1 less for it new 2 months ago from a leading electronics store price matched to an arkansas based retailer that is everywhere.

We bought the 48" about a few weeks ago. we moved our 5 year old Sony 46" to the basement and now have this as our primary tv.

excellent/secure packaging, TV arrived without a scratch or scuff. Love the picture. Connected to our network in just a few seconds. don’t know we will use a lot of the apps, but will definitely use netflix. Nice to do so without having to go through apple tv or ipad.

Remote is limited, won’t operate cable box or vcr, but we use the cable remote anyway.

nice feature, syncs with our sony dvd player. When you turn on dvd, tv automatically switches inputs, switches back when you power it off.

Its quite a bit lighter and thinner than our older Sony, which was LCD. Have had that one for 5 years without any issues.
