It’s an interesting toy, but it’s still a toy.
I was on the original waiting list (2012?)
and excited at first…but the low pixel count undermines the one thing this camera does well…so anything in the background is unbearably low resolution. At this price? Might be worth the novelty value to you…s long as you don’t expect quality pictures…

Reviews on the 16GB over at B&H Photo

Yep, getting close to the value, though. $30-$40 shipped, and we’re there.

Is this a 35mm slide viewer. All the pictures on the lytro site are blurry and out of focus.

When these came out they were HUNDREDS!

It’s been generally accepted that these units are more of a “proof of concept” product than anyone would actually use.

Agreed. These are now so old the woman in the photo has had three kids since it was taken.

Might make some creative porno pix, I suppose. The Lumia Refocus app does the same thing on my phone, with the selectable focus view on the shot after it was taken.

Still pushin’ these, huh?

Yes. Now go buy 3.

I got one of these a couple of weeks ago and it is a fun toy. Think of it as a polaroid in an SLR world. No, it does not take high-resolution photos nor are the photos ones that you might want to print out. It’s different. You can save the photos but the resolution isn’t great. However, you can save them as .mp4s and that’s kind of fun. A mini-movie or a bunch of them strung together. You can also use their software and website to share the living images with friends on FB. For the price, I’m really getting a kick out of it.

Completely agreed.

Every person I know that has one of these say they were amazing - for about the first 8 minutes.

Cool idea - packaged in a skin that is too “un-camera” to make people want to use it.

How about no?

Sounds like someone needs A little attention. Here let me take a picture of you getting all cranky with my new lytro. I’ll make sure you’re out of focus. Now there…feel better?

I bought one at about $100 maybe a year ago… Have shot roughly 20 pictures on it. It is, sadly (as others have said), proof of concept. Anyone with real photography experience will only find themselves frustrated. Woot should be putting three of them in Bagzz off Crappe. I wanted to like this soooo much :frowning:

Bought one of these in a previous woot. It isn’t even worth it as a gimmick. It’s too low resolution and too blurry for anything useful. Nice idea, but it just doesn’t work.
