Reviews over at B&H Photo

The camera is real cool with the 3d ability and changeable focus of a photo already taken. The only problem I have is that my computer is a Win 7 32 bit system and the software for the camera requires 64 bit to load your photos and run the camera. So now I have to clone my hard drive, find a Win 7 upgrade disk and format and reload my operating system then re-load all my programs etc just to get the Lytro software.

Bought one of these on first round. Price is what stopped me before Woot. ($399 !) But at $80 you really can’t beat it. Very easy to use. Process time can be a bit long but the results are worth the wait. Software has it’s limitations, but what SW doesn’t? Don’t expect everything to be in the box. You will need to DL and install SW & Manual. Here is a link to pictures I’ve taken.

Overall, if your a picture person and enjoy messing with SW and teaching yourself how to use and what works best … go for it. BUT … it won’t be your primary camera for awhile yet.

Bought the 16GB model 1 weeks ago at Woot and came damaged white wash on screen, charger damaged and smeeled like burnt plastic. Contacted Lytros excellent support and could not be fixed and returned back to Woot with case for refund since they told me they had no more in stock. Woke up this AM and found that they have it?! What gives. Expect full refund ASAP. Bit the bullet and ordered 8GB hope it works.

purchased this off of woot a few months ago. Here is my review:

They really need to take the remaining stock of these “cameras” and bury them in the hole they dug those Atari ET cartridges out of.

It really isn’t even functional as a toy. Pictures are extremely low resolution and very blurry.

If anyone has anything positive to say about these things. I’d like to hear it. The concept of the device is cool, but the implementation was a total failure.

This is back on Woot once a month. I think no one wants these anymore at this price. Maybe you give these away with any other purchase to get rid of them.

It seems like it’s a bit more often than once a month. Still too much. $30 shipped, maybe $35… that’s all for the three pictures you’ll take with it, until you realize that you can just take the pictures with you.

I’m tempted to buy one of these just out of curiosity but the price still seems a bit high ($50 would be better). The biggest concern I have is that the company has abandoned these cameras (although they state updates will continue) and the software is so proprietary that without company support the camera is a paperweight. http://www.cnet.com/news/lytro-tries-to-right-itself-with-50-million-and-new-purpose-video-and-vr/

Apparently a project Linux is in development.
