Almost Perfect Reviews over at Amazon

A good number of those reviews mention having received the product for free in exchange for a review.

ALL of those reviews are from people who were given the item for free in exchange for their “unbiased” review. Not one verified purchaser on Amazon!

What is the difference between this and the one I bought a while back? They seem to be the same model, but I can’t find any information as to why both brands sell it.

This looks just like the gorilla gadgets 16.8 they’ve sold here over the past few months. Seems kinda suspicious to me. I bought the gorilla branded one a few months ago and I don’t regret it. This looks like they just slapped some other name on the same item. Knock-off? I suggest staying with gorilla. Never heard of lifecharge before. Has anyone?

Most semi-niche market relatively cheap electronic products today are made in China. Most of the time when products look suspiciously similar or almost indistinguishable they are made in literally the same factory. The factory just rebrands it to cheap companies everywhere that sell the same product with a different name. You see this very frequently on eBay. As to the quality, I have no clue.

This is done with all sorts of things here in the US too - milk, cat food … common practice.

One of the main differences I’m seeing are the starting price/sale price, which appears to be related to the available adapters. Based on the specs and description of this item versus the previous, it looks like the inclusion of Apple adapters.

Other than that, it’s exactly the same. If you’re not an apple person, it would seem you’re saving money on those extras.

I don’t know anything about LifeCHARGE, but their list prices at Amazon are positively absurd. The “deal” price at Woot is comparable to the regular price for other similar chargers, e.g. http://www.amazon.com/PowerGen®-8400mAh-External-Battery-Capacity/dp/B0073F92OK

These prices are just OK… before adding the $5 Woot shipping.

I’d pretty much ignore reviews when the reviewer is given the product unless you are seeing lots of verified purchase reviews backing them up.

  • Not liking that the 1 amp and 2 amp outputs do not appear to be clearly marked (which is which). This matters since it will take forever to charge your tablet on a 1 amp output. We’ve added Brother labels to our other-brand battery packs when not clearly marked.

  • Not getting a ‘Juicy’ feeling about the clearly mis-aligned output ports on the 4,400 and 10,400 models. If they can’t get it right for the promo-pics, what makes us think the example they ship will be better?

The Gorilla ones retail priced the same largest size at $120 and are only down to around half that now. This is considerably cheaper. I don’t really care much for the logo. It’s not like something is magically better with a sticker change.

Now you finally have some solid input. Good catches on all of that stuff. I might hold off just due to you.

I purchased the 16,800mah Gorilla charger from Woot during a recent Woot-Off and am very pleased with it. Assuming these are identical (they appear to be simply rebrands) then you should have no problems.

The ports are aligned just fine, and are marked. “OUT2” is the 2 amp, and “OUT1” is the 1 amp. Granted it could be easier to see, I just used a sharpie to put a 1 or 2 next to the port for reference.

Only advice I’d give is you must remember to press the power button the side when you plug in your phone, otherwise it will not charge.

I have the 16800mah version. I bought it from frys on one day sale for $29. The reviews on amazon are accurate in my opinion. The company that makes them is Ontron. I suspect they make the gorilla one. The USB slots aren’t clearly marked but the LCD does tell you the amperage of the slot you are plugged into. I bought a 2nd as a gift because I liked mine so much. I use it to charge my HD maxx, nexus 7, and note 12.2 and what ever comes along. Can’t vouch for the smaller capacities but the 16800 is nice but a bit large. The LCD had scratches but it was just on the protective plastic that peels off.

yeah guys! Its backed by Ontrion and i bought some stuff before via bestbuy and its great. seems they been in business of manufacturing batteries…as i see thay have tons of batteries

I can clealry see the difference between 8400mah & 10400mah. thous lifecharge is with LCD that’s what i noticed
