I bought one of these last woot off… added a SSD and bumped memory up to 8GB. It flies. Fantastic laptop. Wish I had a need for another.

We use a lot of the E6420 (new, not refurb) where I work. Solid laptop at a reasonable price. If you decide to upgrade it as suggested above. It should last you quite a while for the typical student/office use and then some.

If you’re concerned about the weight, 4.6 lbs is noticeably heavier compared to my Ultrabook … but having carried one around for a couple years it really wasn’t so bad.

I actually bought one of these things a few years ago direct from woot (well, “moofi”) with a SSD and a slightly better display (1600x900). Love it…very well built, good performance, and the components are extremely easy to upgrade. Just had to change the battery a few months ago…other than that, no maintenance needed.

Well… crap. I couldn’t pass it up. Bought another one. Maybe I’ll give this one to my kid… add the SSD and upgrade the memory.

Edit: and I already purchased the upgraded memory modules from Amazon. (sigh). Damn you woot!

How much did those upgrades cost?

Any ideas on how this would be for editing/rendering video?

$70 for the memory. It was less than $100 for a 250GB drive.

Can anyone tell me if these come with a SERIAL port?

Nope - they don’t have a serial port.

Got mine in, so far it works fine. Was a little disappointed to find it missing a screw and a rubber foot on the underside. I realize it’s “refurbished”, but that comes off more as “used”. Looks good otherwise.

FedEx lost mine. I have all of the upgrade parts… new SSD and 8GB memory sitting on the counter just waiting and waiting and waiting.

I’m sorry about that. Please use the Support form linked at the top of the page to contact customer support for assistance. Include your Woot username and order number for faster service.

Thanks - I contacted customer support yesterday. I get to wait 7-10 business days for FedEx to try and locate the package. Kelly from Woot Services dropped me a nice email letting me know that if it’s not recovered to let you all know and that Woot will be glad to help resolve the issue. Thanks, Woot. Let’s hope FedEx finds it.

Mine came, but only has a Read Only DVD drive. Waiting to see what Woot says about it. Love the laptop. PS. Woot refunded me $30, the cost of a DVD RW drive. Great stuff, Mr Woot. Ordered a drive caddy to add a 500GB $40 drive, and a SSD 500GB drive as well. Also, probably will bump it up to 8GB. Total cost for all this…thousands and thousands of dollars.
