Cheaper on eBay with 1 year warrantee…

What’s the battery life surfing the web?

yup, I see these on eBay all the time for ~$215

Terrible laptop

When the battery was new, or the rented mule of a battery that will be in this one?

I got a refurb Latitude off woot (different model). Works well for general purpose web/photo stuff. Unlike other Dell lines, with the Latitude series laptops you have at least a chance of finding parts for it if you want to upgrade or repair.

Main complaint is the battery: was noticeably degraded on arrival. A year later it’s good only for moving from outlet to outlet.

You should also look at the dimensions/weight. For a 14" laptop, this thing is relatively thick and heavy.

If you need something that will mostly live on a desk this is probably okay. If you want something to carry around with you everywhere to surf the web, you probably have better solutions available.

Because???

It smells funny?

You can’t see your reflection in the screen?

It won’t run your Windows 3.1 apps?

I’ve been using this laptop at work for nearly 3 years and it’s been very solid. I even spilled a beer on it once over vacation and the screen was minimally affected. Solid for typical daily use/work purposes but not much beyond that.

I have the 15" version with the same specs as my work rig. It’s a tank; indestructible, heavy and not nearly mobile enough. It works, but I hate having to lug this thing the half mile from one end of the plant to the other.

I get a new machine in 18mo and we’re switching to Surface Pros since they can more easily be wiped down for a cleanroom environment and I can’t freaking wait.

Picked one up last time around, upgraded the RAM to 16GB, upgraded the video drivers and it’s been great so far. I think only drawback is no Bluetooth but you have USB ports to add a dongle. So not bad! It’s always plugged in so can’t comment on battery life.

I used one at work for years and was happy with it. I buy Dell Latitudes for my kids because they’re built like tanks. Unfortunately, the version sold here doesn’t have the optional NVIDIA graphics card, which is a deal-breaker for me.

For it’s specs, it really is too big and too heavy without giving up too much in general computing to a “bay trail” tablet.

For these specs, I’d hold out for the Lenovo (T420) offerings over in the computers! section http://computers.woot.com/offers/lenovo-t420-14-1-intel-i5-2-5ghz-laptop-5?ref=cnt_wp_2_27

I know this computer has been up a lot lately.

If you want details research the previous sales.

Mine was absolutely clean and came with the extended battery pack. I can only speak to my experience but if these are done by metropc I think y’all will be pleased as well.

Besides, it has great potential to make it better, faster, stronger. Much like Frankenstein.
