Derby #98: Famous Quotations Illustrated

We regret that we have but one Derby full of sound and fury while truth is putting on its shoes. Never before have so many stitches in time saved nine for so few. We had to destroy the village to layeth down in green pastures. This week, take a famous quotation and render it imaginatively in images. That means your Gettysburg Address quote should’nt be a picture of Abraham Lincoln giving a speech, 'kay? Just remember how it worked when we did this with song lyrics, and movie titles, and book titles, and TV show titles, and you should be fine. After all, if you can’t say anything nice about a bird in the hand, let’s roll!

No song lyrics or dialogue from movies, TV shows, or video games. Lines from poetry, fiction, etc. are acceptable as long as they can reasonably be considered a “famous quote”.

No text.

Heh. Funny thing is the title of the thread was renamed by woot’s filters. Was supposed to say something different…

The first thing I thought of was “the road to hell is paved with good intentions”. But I think it needs text to pull it off.

And I think the ‘no text’ rule needs to be given a break, or modified slightly. I for one think some text would be ok, just no slogans.

I think I might have been able to execute my full idea had I more time, but I’m still pretty happy with how this simplified version ended up.

Surprisingly, the first thing I thought of really was “up so floating many bells down”. I usually don’t mind the no text rule, though sometimes it would be nice for a clarifying line to be included.

I need some suggestions with this rough idea. The quote is “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”. Background horrible? Any ideas? I’m not submitting it for another few hours until the kids go to bed.

i wouldn’t say the bg is horrible, but the central characters don’t stand out very much from it.

I agree. Problem is I’m at my color limit but it’s really silly looking just the people. Wonder if I make the flames all into black and/or halftone them to make them darker…
